Mitchell confirmed Friday that he's had surgery on his left shoulder and left hand this offseason, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell has been afflicted by injury throughout his two seasons with the Steelers, but no DNPs dot his game log during that stretch. In 2015, he racked up a career-high 80 tackles (58 solo), while contributing three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. It's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of the offseason program in April, but his availability for the 2016 season doesn't appear to be in peril.

Mitchell recorded four tackles (one solo) against the Broncos on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell finished the season third on the team with 80 tackles (58) and nine passes defended. He also led the defense with three interceptions, and shared the lead with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. This is the player the Steelers thought they were getting when they signed Mitchell to a five year, $25 million deal as a free agent from the Panthers in 2014. With three years remaining on that contract, Mitchell will be back next season, looking to extend his consecutive regular season games started streak, currently at 46, which is the sixth longest active consecutive games played streak among for an NFL free safety.

Mitchell recorded a team-high eight tackles (six solo) in the Steelers' loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The eight tackles are a single-game best for Mitchell since he joined Pittsburgh. The defense failed to record a turnover against Seattle, and will look to turn things around in Week 13 against the Colts, who are 4-0 with Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback.

Mitchell recorded five tackles (three solo) and an interception in Pittsburgh's 16-10 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
This pick, his second of the season and eighth of his NFL career, came late in the fourth quarter with the Steelers nursing a four point lead. Unfortunately, Ben Roethlisberger threw an interception of his own two plays later, and the Bengals scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown six plays later. Mitchell will face Oakland for the first time in his career in Week 9.

Mitchell had two tackles (both solo), an interception and a fumble recovery in Pittsburgh's 25-13 win over Arizona on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The interception, which came in the end zone late in the fourth quarter, was the seventh of his career, and his first as a Steeler. Expectations were high when Pittsburgh signed Mitchell in 2014, after totaling three-and-a-half sacks, four interceptions and two forced fumbles in his final season with Carolina. He'll face Kansas City, which is -2 in turnovers, in Week 7.
