McCoy did not record a carry and brought in his only target for two yards in the Buccaneers' 34-23 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Ronald Jones comfortably paced the running backs with 17 carries, while McCoy's fellow new arrival Leonard Fournette was a distant second with five rushing touches. That, combined with a game script that progressively ran unfavorable to the running game, left McCoy the odd man out on the ground and afforded him just his one receiving opportunity overall. The fact both Jones and Fournette are also capable receivers out of the backfield makes McCoy potentially redundant over the long run, but for the time being, it will be interesting to see if his role expands in a Week 2 matchup against the Panthers.

McCoy is listed as the primary backup to starter Ronald Jones on the first regular-season edition of the Buccaneers' depth chart released Monday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCoy signed with the Buccaneers on July 30, so he had the benefit of a full training camp to acclimate to coach Bruce Arians' offense. That may have been the key to McCoy being listed ahead of fellow new arrival Leonard Fournette for the time being, although it's also very possible the slotting is a formality more than anything else -- while the bruising Fournette is a natural candidate to share early-down work with Jones, McCoy, at this stage of his career and with his accomplished resume as a receiver, seems like an excellent fit to primarily handle third-down duties.

McCoy could still have a role after the Bucs signed Leonard Fournette, potentially getting work on third downs and in the passing game, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dare Ogunbowale was the team's passing-down specialist last year, but it now appears McCoy could take over the role while Fournette and Ronald Jones handle the vast majority of carries. The 32-year-old averaged only 6.5 yards per catch last season and 7.0 the year before, but he does have 503 receptions to his name, including five seasons with 50 or more. It's not a role that would be likely to produce mainstream fantasy value, but it would at least keep McCoy on the roster and actively involved in the weekly gameplan. Ogunbowale, meanwhile, could be left without a roster spot, or he might need to make his living strictly on special teams.

McCoy has signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The addition of McCoy gives the Bucaneers' backfield added depth and experience to go along with returnees Ronald Jones and Dare Ogunbowale, along with rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn. At 32, McCoy may not be up for every-down duties, but he could prove useful as a pass-catching back in the team's Tom Brady-helmed offense.

McCoy believes he could be a fit with the Eagles, Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. "I could see that," McCoy said Wednesday on NFL Network's Good Morning Football. "I'm going to keep my options open, though. I could see myself there in Philly. Like I said, that's home, so you never know."
EDGE Analysis
Philadelphia's backfield is among the least experienced in the league, with 25-year-old Corey Clement serving as the elder statesmen while second-year pro Miles Sanders is the only one with 175 or more touches in the NFL. The soon-to-be 32-year-old McCoy lands on the other end of the spectrum, perhaps losing a couple steps after piling up 2,950 touches across 11 pro seasons. He averaged 4.6 yards on 101 carries for the Chiefs last year, but between fumbles (three) and his inefficient receiving work (6.5 yards per catch), McCoy found himself on the inactive list by the time the Chiefs reached the AFC Championship Game and then the Super Bowl. A return to Philadelphia likely would mean battling for backup work behind Sanders, with a spot on the 53-man roster not necessarily guaranteed.

McCoy is not considering retirement and said Sunday, "I really just want to play two more years," ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCoy, still a free agent, compiled a solid 465 yards and four touchdowns on 101 carries (4.6 YPC) across 13 regular-season games with the Chiefs in 2019. However, he did see his utilization decline down the stretch of the season, culminating in a healthy scratch during the Super Bowl. The 31-year-old also noted that he's fully healthy, saying "my body feels good," and said that he wants to provide a veteran presence within a competing team's backfield. At this point, it looks likely that the six-time Pro Bowler will have to wait until after the 2020 NFL Draft, which boasts a deep and talented running back class, to latch on with a new team.

McCoy isn't going to re-sign with the Chiefs, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCoy played just one snap in the playoffs, including a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl. However, he averaged 4.6 yards per carry during the regular season, his best mark since 2016 and perhaps a sign that he can still contribute to an NFL team. The veteran running back will turn 32 in July.

McCoy is inactive for Sunday's Super Bowl against the 49ers, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With McCoy a healthy scratch Sunday, Damien Williams will continue to head the Chiefs' backfield, while Darwin Thompson is on hand to work in a complementary role. McCoy's contract with Kansas City expires after the current season and it seems unlikely he'll be back with the team for the 2020 campaign.

McCoy could be trending toward a healthy inactive for Sunday's Super Bowl matchup against the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not altogether surprising news considering McCoy has seen just one snap since Week 16. The veteran running back posted six games with at least 40 rushing yards through the first eight weeks of the season, but he has largely ceded time to the likes of Damien Williams and Darwin Thompson since then. Expect Williams to continue to accumulate the majority of the snaps out of the backfield in the event McCoy is sidelined Sunday.

McCoy (illness) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to the AFC Championship Game, McCoy managed just one limited practice due to an illness, which wasn't enough to allow him to suit up against the Titans. The veteran running back hasn't had a touch since Week 15, yielding to Damien Williams and (to a lesser extent) rookie Darwin Thompson. A similar breakdown of the RB work is possible for the Chiefs' Super Bowl matchup with the 49ers.
