Leon Washington was forced from the Patriots' Week 5 game against the Bengals with an ankle injury, and will not return. Washington went down early in the first half, but wasn't officially ruled out until the fourth quarter. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Washington was going to "have (his) number called," but had yet to notch a touch before going down. His injury occurred on special teams. Washington likely has a high-ankle sprain.

Blount is the only safe option for fantasy purposes, with Bolden representing little more than a desperation FLEX play. Washington shouldn't be started in any format.

In theory, Washington is the Patriots' third-down back in the absence of Shane Vereen, but his snap count appeared to be in the single digits Thursday. The Jets are showing interest in free agent RB/KR Leon Washington. The Jets cut Joe McKnight and currently only have three running backs on the roster (Mike Goodson is suspended four games). Washington spent 2006-09 with the Jets, bringing back four kickoffs for touchdowns and adding 493 touches from scrimmage. He went to the Pro Bowl while with the Seahawks last year. Washington worked out for the Giants Tuesday.
