Timmons signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Dolphins on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.

Over the past ten seasons with the Steelers, Timmons established himself as a leader on defense, only missing two games in his career. He now heads to Miami, where he'll play alongside linebackers Kiko Alonso (thumb) and Koa Misi (neck). Last season Timmons recorded 114 tackles (78 solo), five pass deflections, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble through 16 games.

Set to hit unrestricted free agency, the 30-year-old Timmons likely will be Pittsburgh's top offseason priority, but the linebacker may be able to find a better contract elsewhere. With fellow inside linebacker Ryan Shazier proving to be an outstanding player in his own right (when healthy), the Steelers may not want to dole out top dollar to his aging position mate. Of course, there's plenty of room for both players to shine in the team's 3-4 defensive scheme.
