49ers WR Kyle Williams (torn left ACL) says his rehab is "slightly" ahead of schedule. Williams tore his ACL in Week 12, but he said he will be ready for training camp at the latest. The 49ers' No. 4 receiver all season long, Williams will likely stay there in 2013, even though Randy Moss and Ted Ginn are free agents and Mario Manningham is likely on the chopping block. Williams is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers fear WR Kyle Williams tore a knee ligament in Sunday's Week 12 win over New Orleans. Also a special teamer, Williams is the Niners' No. 4 receiver behind Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, and Randy Moss. A year-ending knee injury for Williams could get explosive first-rounder A.J. Jenkins onto the game-day roster.

49ers WR Kyle Williams was forced from Sunday's game late in the third quarter with an apparent left knee injury. Williams immediately clutched his knee after taking a hit from Jonathan Vilma, who also knocked Kendall Hunter out of the game on the same play. Williams needed assistance from trainers to get off the field and is likely done for the day. He was held without a catch through three quarters.

Kyle Williams caught two passes for a season-high 60 yards in Week 11 against the Bears. The 60 yards receiving were second-highest on the team for the night, but Williams still saw just the two targets. His 57-yard catch down the right side was a perfectly placed touch pass by Colin Kaepernick. Williams' value to the team is on special teams.

49ers CEO Jed York hopes the franchise's 2012 breakout player is WR Kyle Williams. It's good to see that York remains in Williams' corner after the 2010 sixth-rounder emerged as the goat of the 49ers' NFC title game loss. The reality, however, is that Williams is behind Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Ted Ginn, and first-rounder A.J. Jenkins on the depth chart. Unless the 49ers keep six receivers, he's a roster long shot.

CSN Bay Area believes WR Kyle Williams' roster spot will be in danger if the 49ers draft a receiver within the first four rounds. This is not a surprise, as reliable beat writer Matt Maiocco reported in late January Williams' roster spot "certainly is not guaranteed." That was before the Niners re-upped Ted Ginn and signed Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. Regardless of what happens in the draft, the goat of the 49ers' NFC title game loss will have to be lights out in camp to earn a roster spot.

49ers WR Kyle Williams underwent treatment Monday for a shoulder injury sustained during Sunday's season-ending loss. "He thinks he may have separated his shoulder in the third quarter, so he is in the training room," said Kenny Williams, Kyle's father and GM of the White Sox. "That information he has not said anything about publicly and will not because he felt strongly that he could get the job done. There are no excuses; we don't do that. I don't want that misconstrued."

Beat writer Matt Maiocco says Kyle Williams' roster spot "certainly is not guaranteed for next season." Williams' catastrophic performance in the NFC Championship Game has him in the cross-hairs right now, but he wasn't a lock for the 2012 roster regardless. The 2010 sixth-round pick broke camp as the No. 5 receiver this year and the Niners are sure to add talent to the wideout spot. We now know that Williams can't be trusted in the return game. Maiocco says Williams' "mental standpoint" will determine his future with the club.

49ers WR Kyle Williams was held without a reception in the team's NFC Championship Game loss to the Giants and muffed two punts, each leading to a score for the Giants. In a Billy Buckner-caliber performance, Williams botched a punt at his own 24-yard line in overtime. Five plays later, Giants K Lawrence Tynes easily nailed the 31-yard game-winner. Williams wasn't even supposed to be returning punts for San Francisco: It's Ted Ginn's job, but he was inactive with a knee injury. The 49ers will look to upgrade on Williams at receiver in the offseason, and surely will think twice about giving him another shot on returns.
