Williams immediately clutched his knee after taking a hit from Jonathan Vilma, who also knocked Kendall Hunter out of the game on the same play. In a Billy Buckner-caliber performance, Williams botched a punt at his own 24-yard line in overtime. Five plays later, Giants K Lawrence Tynes easily nailed the 31-yard game-winner. Williams wasn't even supposed to be returning punts for San Francisco: It's Ted Ginn's job, but he was inactive with a knee injury. The 49ers will look to upgrade on Williams at receiver in the offseason, and surely will think twice about giving him another shot on returns.
