Josh Brent DL DAL 3 weeks ago1 Comment
Brent has been moved to the Reserve/Retired List, Nick Eatman of dallascowboys.com announces.
Brent is only 27, so it's not like he's grown out of the game. There's no shortage to the personal problems Brent had to deal with off the field, so he might be leaving the game to get his life in order. Rolando McClain once dealt with a similar situation then later returned, so it's not 100 percent we've seen the last of Brent in the NFL.

Brent (groin) picked up two tackles in his return to the NFL on Thursday.
He won't be an IDP factor, but Brent should help shore up the Cowboys' run defense.

Brent (suspension) returned to practice this week and signed a one-year extension with the Cowboys on Saturday, ESPN's Field Yates reports.
He won't be able to play in games until Week 12, but it's good to hear he's back at practice and should be up to speed when he is allowed to return.

Brent was reinstated by the Cowboys, but will have to serve a 10-game suspension before he's able to play, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Brent initially chose to retire last summer following the December 2012 charge of intoxication manslaughter he faced for the death of teammate Jerry Brown, but he decided to continue his career after serving jail time and completing a rehab program. He won't be completely absolved from his off-field turmoil, however, as the Cowboys will not even allow Brent to return to team facilities until after Week 6 of the season. Furthermore, any other alcohol-related incidents Brent may partake in will likely result in a permanent ban from playing in the NFL. Considering all the black marks on his record as well as his extensive time away from the game, it may be difficult for Brent to reemerge as an NFL-caliber player.

Former Cowboys DT Josh Brent was released from his residential substance abuse treatment program Tuesday.
Brent hopes to continue his career, and will meet with Roger Goodell in the next two weeks to discuss reinstatement. Even if he is reinstated, Brent could still face league discipline. The Cowboys are Brent's most likely landing spot if he reenters the league. Dallas needs D-Line help, and Jerry Jones has already said he would consider giving Brent an opportunity. Brent is only 26.

Former Cowboys DT Josh Brent was released from jail.
Brent was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in connection with a December 2012 drunk-driving crash that killed Cowboys practice-squad LB Jerry Brown. Brent has officially retired from the NFL, but Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones recently said the team would be open to bringing Brent back to the team. It is unclear whether Brent wants to return to football, or if he would face a suspension if he were to return.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones said the team would be open to bringing back retired DT Josh Brent once he's released from jail.
Brent, of course, is in jail after he was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and ten years probation. Brent got off extremely easy. He was facing 20 years behind bars. That the Cowboys would even entertain this potential circus points to how dire the situation is on the defensive line in Dallas. Brent "retired" from the NFL last summer.
