Jewell (groin) returned to practice Monday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell reportedly has a chance to suit up for Saturday's exhibition match against the Seahawks, though the Broncos will first monitor how well he holds up during practice. The 26-year-old had a career-high 113 tackles (67 solo) through 16 contests last season.

Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Jewell (groin) is expected to be sidelined about 10 days, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell is dealing with groin tightness and will need to take it easy for the next week-plus. If all goes well in his recovery, the 26-year-old could be back at practice ahead of the preseason opener Aug. 14 at Minnesota.

Jewell sat out Saturday's practice with groin tightness, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell was held out for precautionary reasons, so it doesn't appear to be a serious injury. He took a big step forward for the Broncos in 2020 and recorded 113 tackles (67 solo) and four sacks while starting all 16 games.

Jewell wrapped up the 2020 season with 112 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks and four passes defensed.
EDGE Analysis
Starting Jewell for the entire season probably wasn't Plan A for Denver's brass heading into the regular season but it worked out well. Following the teams' decision to cut Todd Davis, Mark Barron was signed to be the coverage linebacker complementing Alexander Johnson -- particularly after Jewell struggled in coverage during training camp. Injuries kept Barron off the field, and Jewell's play kept him on it as he set career highs in tackles, sacks and passes defensed all the while quarterbacking the defense. It wouldn't be a surprise for Denver to try to find a more athletic inside linebacker to better fit Vic Fangio's scheme, but Jewell held up well during the season and is unlikely to give up his job too easily.

Jewell made 10 tackles (nine solo) in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell enjoyed his third double-digit tackling performance of the year, and now he's second on the team with 58 tackles (40 solo) through eight games. That ties the career high he set back in 2018. Jewell's a solid IDP asset based on those numbers, although he offers little in terms of pass rush or coverage.

Jewell picked up 10 tackles, two sacks and a pass defensed during Thursday's 37-28 win over the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
Facing a third-and-six at midfield while down by eight late in the third quarter, Sam Darnold dropped back to try to spark the comeback, but he was swallowed up by Jewell for a nine-yard loss. Jewell's 10 tackles were his most since Week 1 of last season, and his two sacks represented a career high. Perhaps most impressive has been Jewell's play in coverage. Known mostly as an athletically-limited run-stuffer, Jewell had a pass defensed and made some solid plays in coverage. Jewell is playing more than most anticipated he would just a few weeks ago with the loss of coverage backer Mark Barron (hamstring), and he's making the most of his opportunities -- his 30 tackles through four games leads the team.

Following the release of starting inside linebacker Todd Davis, Jewell will have an opportunity to be the next man up, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell got the start in three games in 2019 after logging nine as a rookie in 2018 and totaling 96 tackles, two fumble recoveries and 1.5 sacks. He figures to be the Broncos' best option opposite Alexander Johnson to start the season, but the inside backer position is fluid in Denver. The team recently signed Mark Barron and traded for Austin Calitro. Neither has the familiarity with Vic Fangio's defense that Jewell has, but both are superior athletes, which is notable given the struggles Jewell has had in coverage. If Jewell does hold onto the starting job for the bulk of the season, he is still likely to be spelled on passing downs.

Jewell (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell was spotted in a walking boot following Week 12's loss to the Bills, but he'll be able to resume his reserve role on the Broncos' defense in this divisional tilt.

Jewell (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
Jewell sustained the injury during last Sunday's loss to the Bills and was wearing a walking boot after the game, but he was able to practice as a limited practice participant Thursday and Friday. Alexander Johnson (knee) is also questionable, which could leave the Broncos short on depth at inside linebacker this week.
