Though the NFL Players Association had called for an independent arbitrator to hear the case, commissioner Roger Goodell is slated to preside over Brady's appeal of the four-game suspension handed to him by the league on Monday, ESPN.com reports. "Commissioner Goodell will hear the appeal of Tom Brady's suspension in accordance with the process agreed upon with the NFL Players Association in the 2011 collective bargaining agreement," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello relayed in a statement on Thursday. In the wake of the 243-page report submitted by league-appointed attorney Ted Wells, Brady was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the coming season for his reported role in"Deflategate." At this stage, a timetable for Brady's appeal hearing is not yet in place, but a reduction of the quarterback's punishment remains a potential outcome. In the meantime, however, second-year signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo is on track to start at QB for the Patriots when the team opens its 2015 regular-season slate.

Any other business, if you do things like Brady did, you would be fired. We all know he likes soft balls, and that applies outside of football.

What a joke. Why waste everybody's time? The NFL needs to remove Goodell ASAP. Where did his punishment come from? You don't think Goodell had a hand in that? Why on earth would they allow him to hear the appeal. NFLPA...where are you?

TheBov Fri 5/15/15 12:24 PM

See above. Agreed in the collective bargaining agreement 2011 which the players signed up to. they have only themselves to blame for that. Their greed got in the way and couldn't see the wood for the trees.

I hear ya.

Awekingster Fri 5/15/15 1:39 PM

good point avcosmo why waste everybody time brady tell his lawyer to let it go and take his 4 game suspension had it been anyone else it would of been more games or outcry over cheating.

Gridiron-IQ Fri 5/15/15 5:09 PM

I hear they'll be calling Goodell as a witness, so he wont be able to be arbitrator. And i agree, Goodell needs to go.

AVCosmo Fri 5/15/15 8:33 PM

I just read that earlier today. How can they call him as a witness if he is hearing the case? Hmmmm...

Gridiron-IQ Fri 5/15/15 8:38 PM

He'll have to remove himself.

The rules of law do not apply to companies handling of discipline.

AVCosmo Sun 5/17/15 9:59 AM

He still can't provide evidence to himself.

KNMGA Sun 5/17/15 3:28 PM

Is that a law AVcosmo? I think he pretty much only has to answer to the owners as a group. Not to the media, not to the owners individually, and definitely not to social media.

If the owners say, you handle this and bring in evidence that you know of, he can most certainly do that.

A big issue in the collective bargaining process is past practice. Past precedence should direct current discipline. In the previous case of ball tampering in a Minnesota game (opponent escapes me right now) Both teams heated the kickers balls on a blustery day. Neither of the kickers were suspended. Neither team was sanctioned. The question Goodall will be asked on the witness stand? When were the NFL teams notified there would be stricter penalties for ball tampering, and why would there be such a large disparity from one tampering case to the next? Amen

TrenchWarrior1 Sun 5/17/15 8:49 PM

This case is full of precedent setting issues regarding the rights of the players & NFLPA. Also the power of the commissioner is in question. As well as privacy rights & many others. The list is long. The NFL lost the last 2 cases going to the courts ala Peterson & Rice. This will be settled by the NFL if at all possible

Gridiron-IQ Sun 5/17/15 8:53 PM

You sound lightweight genius

TrenchWarrior1 Sun 5/17/15 9:26 PM

No light weight here but I am walking my way down . I just watch the NFL network each day & I have read more about this case than I could stand. Take a copy of the points listed and watch them unfold. In the mean time don't shoot the messengers!

AVCosmo Sun 5/17/15 9:58 PM

He can't rule on his own testimony. There's evidentiary procedures that need to be followed. Not adhering to them will only result in more appeals and then court hearings. There is a total conflict of interest here.

RP65 Sun 5/17/15 10:25 PM

The Patriots have an issue... they cheat. Nuff said.

Gridiron-IQ Sun 5/17/15 11:33 PM

So does every other team

TrenchWarrior1 Sun 5/17/15 11:43 PM

They all cheat! Warren Moon says all QBs tamper with the balls. NE, Minn & Car were all cited in 2014 for ball tampering.Jerry Rice said all WRs used stickum back in his day. Pats were not the only one bugging the oppositions locker room. The Browns were not the only ones texting the sideline. The Falcons were not the only ones piping in crowd noise. The Cowboys are not the only ones spying on opponents practices. The Saints were not the only team posting bounties.Miami & NYJ are not the first accused of tampering. On & on, but Pats are 4 time Super Bowl champs & people do not like that much. Especially people in NYJ, Buffalo, Miami, Denver & Indianapolis. (; Let the facts play out! If the facts dictate you will get your way with Brady, but 4 losses will not take the Pats off your playoff path.
