Olsen caught 6-of-14 targets for 70 yards in Sunday's win over the Texans.
EDGE Analysis
Sunday's performance was closer to the type of production we have become accustomed to from Olsen and was a nice return to form after a disappointing Week 1. He was still targeted just once in the red zone, but that can be attributed to the Panthers scoring on a pair of long passes and a quarterback keeper Sunday. Olsen should continue to be heavily involved in the offense, as he is one of Cam Newton's most trusted targets, and he will look to find the end zone for the first time this season in Week 3 against the Saints.
Yeah that is nice to see, but I would have expected more production from him so far than just 6 catches. With Kelvin out and J. Stew unproductive, who else are they going to use? Hopefully the targets will stay high and more receptions and TDs follow.
Nothing to do with Newton actually. Was watching the game. 14 targets is not accurate, first off, it was 12. Secondly, Olsen was constantly being double-teamed by the Texans because the Panthers other receiving options are Ted Ginn, Philly Brown, Jerricho Cotchery and Devin Funchess. In that order. Olsen is by far the biggest receiving threat on that team and he will continue to get targets. However, Olsen is not Gronk. He is not able to fight off a double teams on a consistent basis and get open. Many of Newton's throws at Olsen were forcing it into double coverage, twice into triple coverage, (one of those two he caught actually). So long as Carolina continues to have no other real threats at receiver, Olsen will continue to be double and triple covered.
Lots to do with Newton. I see that you're a Carolina fan, and I respect that, but take your fan goggles off when you need to be objective. Newton was simply off-target on lots of those throws. In fact, he's off-target on his throws as a rule. He's a 59% career passer for a reason.
Much of the reason the Panthers front-office has been investing in young wide-receivers specifically with the physical profile of Benjamin and Funchess is because their best asset is a huge catch-radius, which mitigates Newton's erratic accuracy.

Newton is such a crummy passer.

Yep! 14 targets is encouraging for Olsen owners like myself

Still think it's a problem with Newton?

Oh, and Andrew Luck is a career 58.4% rating, so, yeah.
