Coach Greg Schiano expressed confidence in rookie RB Mike James Monday.
With Doug Martin (shoulder) sidelined, James is going to make his first career start against the Panthers Thursday. "I've liked what I've seen of Mike the last few weeks, both in practice and the game," Schiano said. "I think Mike has really improved as a running back from the beginning stages of training camp and made improvement steadily. When he's had his opportunities, he's done good things." Brian Leonard will play on third downs and Bobby Rainey may get a couple change-of-pace touches, but James is the clear-cut feature back. A plus pass-catcher with some burst at 5'10/220, he'll be a flex option despite a tough matchup.
Here's a question for you. I play in a pretty tough PPR league with a limited bench - only 4 spots plus an IR slot. Roddy White is currently on IR so I can employ Boykin and Rueben Randle this week. My question is: should I drop Trent Richardson to stash Doug Martin on my bench? I only need to start one RB, one WR and two RB/WR slots so most weeks I plan to go with 1 RB and 3 WRs. My other 2 backs are Giovani Bernard and LeVeon Bell. I dropped Da I'd Wilson weeks ago. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
Well, think how poorly a stud did without a good QB under center. Now imagine how a middling RB3 will do without a QB. And Murray looks like he's a go for Sunday. Go with James.
I can't see starting James tonight - Carolina has a top 5 run D - on avg. they g/up less than 14pts a game - they are solid vs the pass - Heck I might even sit VJAX too as Glennon is due to get picked @ least twice tonight . ..
problem is James starts Thursday..probably won't know Jacksons status till later in the week. Tell me why again Forte and Arian have to both be on bye? :)
That's a toughie skins.....first instinct is Helu but man my Falcons defense is so bad I can't help but think that Mendy will have his best game of the year by far.
Rogers will still get his passes. With Julio/Roddy out I think we can expect to be seeing SJax and Jaquizz in at the same time on some plays. I still like James upside, just not sure how he is going to fair against a stout boxed run D in Carolina..Tough call for me but knowing SJax is not 100% I would role with Jaquizz this week in your situation.

I really don't see James having a very good performance, Carolina has a solid D and Martin hasn't exactly lit the world on fire for the Bucs this year. No reason to expect James to do what Martin couldn't.
i agree. the one thing ive learned is sometimes, with rookies is you have to give them a chance. There is always that chance that you own this years gem like alfred morris last year. With sjax playing i see rodgers doing ok but if james is playing most the snaps i hope for a big game. luck? oh yea but you never know
Randles value is totally dependent on dunbar and murray unfortunately so a bit of a roll of the dice right now since you won't know who is playing. I have a hard time recommending James as I mentioned above though. With my luck that means he will have a huge game lol.
Didn't pay a lot for him and I was the only one in the ten team league that put in a waiver wire for him as my backs Trent Richardson,randle,Shane vereen all up in the air Alain have knowshon Moreno which I took in the last round of the draft lol is a beast this year so I dropped Willis McGhee for James hope it pans out

Spilled is dinged up enough that he might not even play. Even if he does, because he's dinged up, will split carries with Jackson. Go with James.
