Shawn Williams replaced Iloka in the game. "I felt like I was hurting the team more than I was helping them at the time, so I took myself out. That's all I can say about that," said Iloka.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports George Iloka has a "stranglehold" on the Bengals' starting strong safety job. Iloka started all 16 games last season as a first-year starter and racked up 66 tackles, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and an interception. The Bengals signed Danieal Manning as a free agent and also have Taylor Mays and sophomore Shawn Williams as options at safety. Manning is expected to play the majority of his snaps as the nickel corner. Reggie Nelson is the starting free safety.

Bengals S George Iloka played 96.7 percent of Cincinnati's defensive snaps in the 2013 regular season. Though he struggled at times against the run, Iloka took a step forward in his second season, recording 66 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and a pick. He finished the year as Pro Football Focus' No. 20 safety out of 86 qualifying players. Iloka is penciled in as a starter.

George Iloka is expected to be the Bengals' Opening Day starter at strong safety. He beat out Taylor Mays and rookie Shawn Williams. Strong safety has long been a highly productive position in Mike Zimmer's defense, giving Iloka some sneaky IDP appeal. Reggie Nelson will play more free safety this year.

Second-year S George Iloka is listed as the Bengals' starting strong safety on the team's initial unofficial depth chart. Iloka, a fifth-round pick out of Boise State last year, has prototypical size at 6-foot-4, 225 with 34.5-inch arms, but he's an iffy tackler. Most expect third-round rookie Shawn Williams to eventually win the starting job.

Bengals reserve safety George Iloka suffered an ankle injury in Monday night's game and is questionable to return. Iloka backs up Taylor Mays but had been rummored to be pushing him for a starting job this summer. He was drafted in the fifth round out of Boise State.

The Cincinnati Enquirer lists George Iloka as a darkhorse to win the Bengals' strong safety job. It's a bit of a surprise in that Iloka was viewed as a project. Taylor Mays will enter training camp as the starter based on seniority, but the Enquirer's Joe Reedy expects there to be a wide open competition. If Iloka makes an impact as a rookie, it will likely be in sub-defenses.

Bengals signed fifth-round S George Iloka to a four-year contract. Iloka is a freak specimen at 6-foot-4, 225 with 34 1/2-inch arms, certainly possessing size to become a matchup player against the NFL's more athletic tight ends. Iloka is a shaky tackler in space, however, and not especially fluid in the hips. He is unlikely to push for significant playing time as a rookie.
