With Vance McDonald done for the year, Celek will be elevated to starting tight end against the Falcons on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
New broke this week of McDonald's season-ending injury, opening up playing time for Celek in a tasty matchup with the Falcons. Atlanta currently gives up the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends and will likely get up early on San Francisco, forcing the team to throw early and often. That being said, Celek is not a must-start tight end due to his limitations as a receiver, but you could certainly do worse in deep leagues.

Celek pulled in his only target for five yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
Celek was unable to take advantage of the extra playing time he received after Vance McDonald (shoulder) was forced out of Sunday's game. In fact, Blake Bell had more yards (30) and targets (two) than the veteran tight end, indicating that the team may give the youngster a longer look down the stretch if McDonald is forced to miss time. If the latter is unable to suit up next week, it'd be hard to trust either of his potential replacements.

Celek hauled in two of his three targets for 19 yards and a score in Sunday's 31-24 loss to Miami.
EDGE Analysis
Celek hauled in a four-yard touchdown to highlight what was a rather pedestrian day. He is clearly the second option behind Vance McDonald, and his three targets Sunday compared to the latter's eight illustrate that point. The touchdown was Celek's first of the season, so he isn't much of an option unless McDonald were to go down to injury.

Celek gathered all three targets that came his way in Sunday's loss to the Patriots
EDGE Analysis
Celek has had two of his three best games of the season over the last three weeks - with a catchless contest in between. The stretch highlights the fact that it's hard to count on any member of the 49ers' offense this season, but it also illustrates a broader trend in the 49er's post-bye offense - an emphasis on throwing the ball to the tight ends. Celek and starter Vance McDonald totaled 20 catches through Week 7, but have combined for 17 in the three games since. Celek is still a backup on an anemic offense, but this trend in the 49ers' offense is worth keeping an eye on.

Celek did not receive a target in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
After gaining 76 yards in Colin Kaepernick's aerial display last week, Celek was nothing more than an afterthought against the Cardinals. Vance McDonald is clearly the team's top receiving option at the tight end position and should continue to be going forward barring an injury.

Celek turned six targets into four catches and 76 yards against the Saints on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Celek was the beneficiary of an uncharacteristic aerial showcase by Colin Kaepernick. While Vance McDonald had the superior fantasy day (three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown), Celek was actually the more consistent tight end, spreading his production out evenly over four catches. The 49ers are unlikely to throw for 398 yards anytime soon (or ever again this season), so it is tough to trust Celek going forward with matchups against Arizona and New England on the docket.

Celek was a non-factor Sunday, catching just one pass for four yards in a loss to Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
With Vance McDonald back in action, Celek's role has been reduced to a blocking role in most two-tight end sets. Unless the former suffers another injury, the latter remains a fantasy afterthought.

Celek only pulled in one of the six balls thrown his way Thursday, finishing with four yards and no touchdowns in the loss to Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
It was a game to forget for Celek, who was starting in place of Vance McDonald (hip). His final line of four yards on six targets tells you all you need to know about his fantasy potential. Not every incompletion was his fault, but there were two ugly drops where Celek was wide open and simply dropped passes that could have picked up big chunks of yardage. With the extra rest following Thursday night's game, McDonald has a good chance of returning to the field next week, which would force Celek back to TE2 on the 49ers' depth chart.

Celek (back) caught all five of his targets for a career-high 79 yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Cowboys.
EDGE Analysis
Celek got the start as Vance McDonald (hip) inactive, and he was the only pass-catcher besides Jeremy Kerley to record multiple receptions and surpass 13 yards. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert turned in another sub-par performance, but Celek's usage is encouraging for his fantasy prospects for as long as McDonald is out. Regardless of McDonald's status, Celek will face a tough matchup in Week 5 versus the Cardinals.

Celek (back) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
EDGE Analysis
Celek is slated to be out there Sunday, unlike fellow TE Vance McDonald, but given that Celek was listed as questionable for the contest with a back issue, he's a Week 4 dart in fantasy lineups.
