Martin will start at running back for the Buccaneers in Sunday's game against the Lions, a source informed Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Martin sat out the Buccaneers' Week 13 loss to the Packers with a concussion, Peyton Barber operated as the team's lead back and turned in an eye-opening performance, putting up 143 total yards on 27 touches. Though Barber's productive showing could resulting in him earning a sizable role in the Bucs' Week 14 game plan, it looks as though Martin, who cleared the concussion protocol earlier this week and is back to full strength, will retain top status in the backfield at the beginning of Sunday's contest. It's worth noting, however, that Martin has averaged fewer than four yards per carry in six of his last seven appearances, so if he struggles to make an impact early on against the Lions, don't be surprised if head coach Dirk Koetter leans heavily on Barber the rest of the day.

Martin was cleared from the protocol for head injuries Thursday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin will thus miss just one game as a result of the concussion suffered Week 12. Whether or not he starts Sunday versus the Lions remains to be seen, but offensive coordinator Todd Monken hinted as much Thursday, according to Roy Cummings of WFLA NewsChannel 8. With Martin sidelined this past weekend, Peyton Barber took advantage of a great blocking scheme, per Monken, running 23 times for 104 yards. If the coaching staff turns back to Martin as the No. 1 back, he'll aim to take advantage of a Detroit unit that has conceded 146.5 rushing yards per game and six touchdowns on the ground to running backs over the last four contests.

Martin may start Sunday's game against the Lions if he gains clearance from the concussion protocol, Roy Cummings of WFLA NewsChannel 8 reports.
EDGE Analysis
On the heels of a 23-carry, 104-yard effort this past Sunday at Green Bay, Peyton Barber could be usurped by Martin, who was absent due to a concussion. Prior to suffering the injury Week 12 in Atlanta, Martin was on pace for one of his most productive performances of the season -- seven rushes for 33 yards, or 4.7 YPC -- so the coaching staff wants to see if the run blocking in front of Barber translates to the typical starting running back. Martin himself hasn't reeled off 100-plus yards in a given game since Week 11 of the 2015 campaign, but he won't have a chance to accomplish the feat again until he's cleared by an independent neurologist.

Martin (concussion) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
While this doesn't mean Martin has made it out of the concussion protocol, it does put him on track to return for Sunday's game against the Lions. The extent of his role in that contest will be subject to scrutiny, as Peyton Barber gained 102 yards on 23 carries and 41 yards on four catches in Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Packers. Martin hasn't produced that many scrimmage yards or rushing yards in a single contest since Week 11 of 2015.

Martin (concussion) returned to practice Wednesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The activity marked Martin's first since sustaining a concussion on Nov. 26 in Atlanta. Whether he practices on a limited basis or leaps all the way to full remains to be seen, but only the latter will imply that he's reached the final stages of the NFL's protocol for head injuries. During Martin's sole absence to date, Peyton Barber was the centerpiece of the Bucs backfield Sunday at Green Bay, racking up 143 yards from scrimmage. Meanwhile, Charles Sims (51 scrimmage yards) and Jacquizz Rodgers (25) had minimal roles.

Martin (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Green Bay, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin was unable to practice at all this week, which puts him in danger of missing time beyond Sunday. His absence leaves Jacquizz Rodgers as the likely starter, but there's no guarantee the role leads to a large workload, given that Peyton Barber and Charles Sims also figure to be involved.

Martin (concussion) was not present for Friday's practice, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
This would make three straight days without practice for Martin, so it's looking like he will be unavailable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Expect an official update on Martin's Week 13 availability after Friday's practice comes to a close.

Martin (concussion) was a non-participant in Thursday's practice, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin entered the NFL's concussion protocol after sustaining the head injury in Sunday's loss to the Falcons, and his failure to practice yet this week suggests he hasn't made too much progress on the health front. Even if he's able to practice Friday, Martin would still have to receive clearance from an independent neurologist in order to suit up Week 13 against the Packers. Jacquizz Rodgers looks like the top candidate to serve as Tampa Bay's primary back if Martin is unable to play this week, though Charles Sims is the team's preferred pass-catching back and Peyton Barber could get some usage in short-yardage situations.

Martin (concussion) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Entering the concussion protocol Sunday in Atlanta, Martin hasn't reached his baseline marker, which would allow him to take part in portions of practice. Until he does, DNP will be next to his name on Buccaneers injury reports. If Martin eventually misses Sunday's game at Green Bay, Jacquizz Rodgers, Charles Sims and Peyton Barber will split the running back reps in same way, shape or form.

Martin has been ruled out of Sunday's game in Atlanta due to a concussion, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
On the Buccaneers' first series of the game, Martin asked to come of the field at one point but ultimately continued to play, per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. When exactly Martin suffered the head injury is unknown, but he'll now be subject to the league's protocol in order to return. In the meantime, Jacquizz Rodgers should handle most of the carries, while Charles Sims and Peyton Barber handle change-of-pace roles.
