Cowboys agreed to terms with OT Doug Free on a four-year, $32 million contract. The deal includes $17 million in guarantees. The Cowboys gambled by refusing to franchise tag Free at $11 million, and it paid off despite the reported "dogfight" with the Bucs. We suspect that was overplayed by Free's agent in an attempt to drive up the price on the Cowboys. Free is tentatively expected to stay on Tony Romo's blindside this season, though it's not set in stone with top-ten pick Tyron Smith waiting in the wings.

Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole reports the Cowboys and Bucs are in a "dogfight" for free agent OT Doug Free. "Could get really expensive," adds Cole. The Bucs have as much cap room as any team in the league, and Free fits their profile of investing in talented young players. The Cowboys have been clearing out salary cap space all day, and won't go down without a vigorous fight.

ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins believes there's "no guarantee" the Cowboys will be able to re-sign free agent LT Doug Free. The Cowboys have made it well known that re-signing Free will be their number one priority after the lockout has ended, but they are expected to be roughly $18 million over the salary cap, making it no easy task. If Free gets away on the open market, Dallas would be forced to turn to first-round pick Tyron Smith at left tackle.

Fox Sports Southwest's Matt Mosley doesn't envision a scenario where the Cowboys re-sign LT Doug Free to a long-term deal and still pursue free agent Nnamdi Asomugha. Free is set to be the most attractive offensive lineman available, so the Cowboys are going to have to match all offers on a lucrative deal after the market is set. At that point, the salary cap becomes an impassable hurdle for a second major signing. Mosley says with "absolute certainty" that the Cowboys consider Asomugha as a "huge long shot."

Cowboys LT Doug Free is expected to be an unrestricted free agent as a four-year veteran. Cowboys VP Stephen Jones is on the record saying re-signing Free will be their "No. 1 priority when things start up." But Jerry Jones admitted that bringing Free back is going to be a tall task. The highly athletic 27-year-old will attract plenty of attention on the open market.
