Coach Leslie Frazier confirmed that Donovan McNabb will start over Christian Ponder, "barring unforeseen circumstances." "We're signing him assuming he's going to be our starting quarterback," said Frazier. "... There's no doubt in my mind Donovan McNabb will perform at a high level in 2011." Frazier has already sat down with Ponder and Joe Webb to explain the pecking order. McNabb will have to faceplant in August to lose the job. Even then, Ponder or Webb would have to play lights out.

Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia reports that the Redskins' trade of Donovan McNabb to the Vikings in exchange for a 2012 sixth-round pick and conditional sixth-rounder in 2013 is complete. The (roughly) 14-hour holdup was contract parameters; McNabb needed to rework his deal and get rid of the $10 million option bonus the Redskins owed him per last November's phony extension. McNabb figures to open camp as the favorite to start for the Vikings, but the team won't wait around if the 34-year-old struggles early. Minnesota's scouting department determined before the draft that Christian Ponder was NFL-ready. It's probably a safe bet that both will start games this year, be it due to ineffectiveness or injury behind an aging offensive line that struggles in pass protection. This is a situation to avoid in fantasy football.

The Vikings and Donovan McNabb have reportedly agreed on contract terms, but the trade is on hiatus while the sides resolve a personal issue. We forgot just how much of an absolute diva McNabb can be. He was reportedly concerned Tuesday night about "how the Vikings' side of the situation was handled." He may have been Minnesota's fallback plan to Tyler Thigpen, which can't be easy on the old ego. With the proper amount of kowtowing, the Vikings are ultimately expected to assuage McNabb.

Donovan McNabb is expected to work out a new contract with the Vikings on Wednesday, putting the finishing touches on a trade with the Redskins.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Vikings have agreed to send a 2012 sixth-round pick to the Redskins if Donovan McNabb agrees to restructure his contract. The Vikings will also include a conditional 2013 sixth-rounder. Minnesota was also looking at Tyler Thigpen and Bruce Gradkowski, which tells you all you need to know about Donovan McNabb's value right now. The decision to abandon those two QBs also suggests a confidence that McNabb will agree to a significant paycut in exchange for a shot at leading what could be an explosive offense.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk that reports of a potential Donovan McNabb deal between the Vikings and Redskins are "premature." The trade could still happen, but as of yet the two teams have not even agreed on compensation much less a restructured contract for McNabb. Despite the prior relationship between McNabb and Vikes coach Leslie Frazier, we're still not convinced this is a good fit. McNabb has no interest in holding a clipboard for Christian Ponder if the Vikings start out slowly this year.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the "parameters" of a Donovan McNabb trade to the Vikings are in place, but agreeing on financial terms "could be tricky." LaCanfora is going one step further than Adam Schefter's previous report, suggesting the Vikings and Redskins have agreed on compensation. McNabb's only motivation for agreeing to a restructured deal is preventing the Redskins from holding him hostage until September. McNabb still sees himself on the same level as Peyton Manning, so the contract is no small hurdle. McNabb does know Leslie Frazier from their three years together in Philadelphia, however, so that may be incentive to work out an arrangement.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Vikings are "one of a few teams" to discuss Donovan McNabb with the Redskins, but contract restructuring remains an issue. The Vikings beat writers remain united against a McNabb addition, hinting that the reports have emanated from the Redskins or McNabb's camp. Considering Schefter tight relationship with coach Mike Shanahan, this could be an effort by the Redskins to drive up demand after trashing McNabb's value over the past eight months. There's no question that McNabb will have to restructure his contract to be dealt.

The Washington Times confirms that the Redskins still "hope" to trade Donovan McNabb and Albert Haynesworth "to receive some compensation." We can't play them for trying as long as the expectations are realistic. The rest of the league knows the Redskins have no longer have a use for either player. Perhaps they can land a late-round pick or two. McNabb would have to restructure his contract for a trade, which further complicates matters.

Appearing on NFL Network Monday, SI's Peter King hinted that the Vikings are not a likely suitor for Donovan McNabb. King's assertion wasn't as strong as a recent one from FOX Sports' Adam Caplan, but he's certainly skeptical. "I'm hearing that Minnesota is not as in love with McNabb as we thought they might have been," said King. Local reporters in Minnesota also insist the Vikings won't pursue McNabb, especially if he'd cost them a draft pick. Without the Vikes in the mix, the Redskins will have a very difficult (impossible?) time trying to trade McNabb.
