The New York Daily News confirms that the Jets have a contract offer on the table for free agent Derrick Mason. However, beat writer Manish Mehta cautions that there is "no guarantee" Mason will accept. The 37-year-old is believed to have other offers available. The Jets can offer a shot at a Super Bowl, as well as a full-time role in the slot.

Free agent Derrick Mason is meeting with the Jets Thursday. The Jets are collecting former Spartans. Multiple reports suggest Mason will sign as long as he passes his physical. The 37-year-old would act as Plaxico Burress insurance while also allowing the Jets to continue to shop Jerricho Cotchery. The Ravens are expected to ramp up their pursuit of Malcom Floyd.

Beat writer Jim Wyatt believes the Titans are interested in soon-to-be released WR Derrick Mason. Mason spent the first seven years of his career in Tennessee, getting within inches of a Super Bowl XXXIV victory. The Titans would have interest in bringing him back as a possession-receiver complement to Kenny Britt. There has also been chatter about the Ravens wanting Mason back at a cheaper rate.

Recently released Derrick Mason is willing to return to the Ravens on a lower salary. "If they want me back, I'm back," said Mason. "That's all I can say. If some other team wants me, you have to look at it. ... My first thought is to come back here. If not, I can still play football."

The Ravens hope to bring back free agent Derrick Mason at a lower salary after his release becomes official Thursday. Same goes for Todd Heap. "The Ravens want to get that done," confirms Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times. Mason's role would still seem certain to diminish following the additions of rookie Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss in the draft. It also remains to be seen if he'll want to return as a possible backup.

Ravens informed WR Derrick Mason, TE Todd Heap, RB Willis McGahee, and NT Kelly Gregg of their release. Combined, the moves save $18.6 million in base salary, and all four cuts clear significant room under the salary cap. The flurry of salary slashes makes us wonder if Baltimore is gearing up for a run at free agent Nnamdi Asomugha, who could not only shore up the Ravens' secondary, but serve as an excellent mentor to first-round pick Jimmy Smith. Mason, 37, caught 61 passes for 802 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He still has value as a possession-slot type receiver, but the Ravens already had too many of those.

Derrick Mason "guarantees" he'll retire if the Ravens win the Super Bowl this season. Mason says he'll give retirement a long look regardless of what happens during the Ravens season. A poor man's Brett Favre, Mason has a long history of considering retirement, and he won't truly be retired until the first week he doesn't step out onto the field. Entering his age-37 season, he hasn't missed a game since 2002.
