Redskins CB David Amerson is expected to get a chance to start in 2014. Amerson, the 51st selection in last April's draft, served as the Redskins No. 3 corner behind DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson as a rookie. Both Wilson and Hall are set to become free agents. There will likely be mutual interest between Hall and the Redskins regarding a new deal, but Wilson struggled and will probably be elsewhere. Amerson (6-foot-1, 205) has the ideal length to play outside. Washington will also be eyeing corners in free agency and the draft.

Redskins CB David Amerson (concussion) is expected to be cleared for Week 7. "He passed his tests," coach Mike Shanahan said Thursday. "He'll be tested every day and go through the protocol, and if he passes his tests each day, he should be ready to go." A second-round pick, Amerson has made two starts this season, playing 245 snaps.

Redskins CB David Amerson left Sunday night's Week 6 game against the Cowboys with a concussion. Amerson suffered a helmet to helmet hit on a kickoff return in the third quarter and is out for the game. He'll now need to pass the league's concussion protocol before returning to practice.

Second-round pick David Amerson has received more first-team reps than any cornerback in Redskins camp. Per the Washington Post, coaches and veteran players have both described Amerson as "the most talented corner on the team." Amerson obviously doesn't lack talent, but he's still prone to peeking into the backfield, a problem that plagued him throughout last season at North Carolina State. In an ideal world, the Redskins will fix that issue and use Amerson at outside corner in all nickel packages, opposite Josh Wilson with DeAngelo Hall in the slot.

Redskins signed second-round CB David Amerson to a four-year contract. Amerson was beat deep more than any cornerback in college football last season, but the Redskins believe his issues were fundamental and fixable. The Skins are expected to open the season with Josh Wilson at right corner, DeAngelo Hall at left corner, and E.J. Biggers in the nickel package. Amerson should be targeting Biggers to unseat for sub-package duties, pushing Hall into the slot.

CSN Washington reports No. 51 pick CB David Amerson's size, length and speed were "evident as he smothered receivers" in Redskins' rookie minicamp. Amerson played mostly on the right side. Amerson is coming off a senior season where he was routinely burned, but coach Mike Shanahan believes his issues can be corrected. "We do a lot of things differently in our secondary," Shanahan said optimistically. "We think we can give him opportunities he hasn't had in the past." Amerson is better suited for safety, but will get a chance to earn a starting cornerback job in camp.

The Redskins are grooming No. 51 overall pick CB David Amerson to play on the outside. Amerson (6-foot-1, 205) has the size and ball-hawking skills to play safety, but he lined up almost exclusively at right corner in rookie minicamp this weekend. He has good speed (4.44 forty) and long arms (32 5/8"), and he's a very aggressive corner who likes to jump routes. Amerson led the nation with 13 interceptions in 2011 at NC State. The Redskins tied for third in the NFL with 21 interceptions in 2012.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan anticipates No. 51 pick David Amerson competing for a starting cornerback spot in camp. Amerson needs a ton of technical work after getting burned deep relentlessly in the ACC last year, so DBs coach Raheem Morris has his work cut out. "He's a guy we feel can play in off coverage," Shanahan said. "He's got the speed that you look for. He can play in bump coverage. He's got some length. Just a guy that we thought we would fit into our system very well. Very smart player."
