Johnson re-signed with the Texans on Monday, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Johnson accumulated 31 reception for 331 yards and one touchdown with the Texans last season, and it appears he will return to the team in 2015, and is expected to compete for the team's slot receiver position. With Andre Johnson's impending departure, the receiver position heading into next season remains a bit cloudy, but the Texans could add one themselves via free agency or the draft, while Johnson will contend with DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin for duties in the slot.

Johnson had three catches on three targets for 33 yards in the season-ending win over the Jaguars and finished the 2015 season with 31 catches on 50 targets for 331 yards and one touchdown. He also returned nine punts and six kicks this past season.

Johnson was a distant third at wide receiver behind the heavily targeted DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson. The Texans' run-heavy offense left little opportunity for a third wideout. His contract is up in 2015, but his job with Houston isn't secure.

Johnson caught five passes on eight targets for 21 yards in Sunday's win over the Browns. He also rushed one time for six yards.

Both the receptions and targets were season highs for Johnson, which is significant because the Texans started a new quarterback, Ryan Mallett, on Sunday. Still, the Texans are a run-first team and Johnson is third on the depth chart behind DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson. We suspect his extensive usage against Cleveland is an anomaly.

Johnson (foot) is listed as active for Thursday's game against the Colts, the Texans' official site reports.

As long as fellow wideouts DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson are both able to suit up, Johnson's fantasy upside is limited. To date, he has recorded five catches for 71 yards and a TD through five games.

Johnson (foot) was listed as a full participant in Tuesday's practice.

Johnson has been able to practice fully both days this week, so he should be able to play in Thursday's game against the Colts despite the foot injury.

Johnson was replaced mid-game at kickoff and punt returner in Sunday's win over the Bills, the Houston Chronicle reports.

No reason was given for the change, but Danieal Manning handled kickoffs and Keshawn Martin took care of the punts. The return-specialist jobs were open in training camp and still appear unsettled.

Johnson has more targets in three weeks this season than he did all last season with Philadelphia.

Johnson has emerged as the Texans slot receiver and third wideout while also serving as the team's return specialist. Having been added to the team after the final cuts of preseason, Johnson has been getting up to speed in the Houston offense. And the increased reps he's been getting has accelerated his learning process.

Johnson had two catches on two targets for 56 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Giants.

Johnson had only one catch in both of the Texans' games this season before Sunday, but he got loose for a 44-yard touchdown in the third quarter that made up a vast majority of his fantasy value. With DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson still the top wideout options for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, Johnson's fantasy value is quite limited.

Johnson was the only returner used in Houston's win over Washington in Week 1. He returned one kick for 28 yards and four punts for 28 yards.

It had been reported that Keshawn Martin would return punts with Johnson handling kickoffs, but plans changed. Additionally, the early depth chart for Week 2 has Johnson ahead of Martin at wideout, according to CSN Houston. In another indication of Johnson's increasing roster status, DeVier Posey was inactive for Week 1. Johnson had three targets and one catch against Washington. However the depth chart shakes out in a given week, the smart fantasy plays at wide receiver remain Andre Johnson or DeAndre Hopkins, but this does give us a clearer read on which of the sub group will get snaps in three wideout sets.

Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Texans, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Johnson, who was a final cut by the Eagles, had 21 receptions for 270 yards in two seasons with Philadelphia after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Tulsa. He also has experience as a punt and kick returner.
