Robert Herron got the nod over Owusu as the No. 3 wide receiver in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. None of Herron, Owusu, Louis Murphy and Tim Wright impressed, but based on the usage, Herron can perhaps be considered a slight favorite to open the year as Tampa's No. 3 wide receiver. The role doesn't figure to be very lucrative, as Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, Doug Martin and the tight ends figure to command nearly all of Josh McCown's attention.

Mike Evans started over Owusu in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins, FOX Sports 1's Jenna Laine reports. Owusu is listed as a starter on the depth chart, but Evans has always been expected to get the nod come Week 1. The Bucs apparently have an aversion to putting rookies at the top of the depth chart, as second-round tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is listed fourth at his position. While Owusu doesn't figure to beat out Evans, it probably means something that he -- and not another player -- is listed ahead of the rookie on the depth chart. The Bucs have no obvious No. 3 wide receiver, and Owusu is one of the options, according to ESPN's Pat Yasinkas, who also mentions undrafted rookie Robert Herron and nominal tight end Tim Wright. The trio combined for two receptions and nine receiving on five targets Saturday, with Owusu registering just a target.

Coach Lovie Smith continued to throw praise in WR Chris Owusu's direction this week. "Chris Owusu has been pretty good from day one," Smith said. "He's one that has caught my attention from the first minicamp all the way through." Smith pointed to Owusu last month at voluntary workouts as a player that was catching his eye. The former UDFA out of Stanford will compete with Robert Herron and other for the No. 3 job behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans this summer.

Coach Lovie Smith has been impressed with WR Chris Owusu early on. "He has good size, excellent speed and I've been impressed with how he has caught the football," Smith said. "He's a guy that you do notice. He's running good routes, he's caught the ball well and he's done some good things." After the Mike Williams trade, Owusu appears to be the leader in the clubhouse for No. 2 duties. However, it's safe to say the Bucs will be adding to their receiving corps. Owusu is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with 4.36 wheels.
