The Denver Post says the Broncos are "likely" still the leading candidate to sign free agent Charles Woodson. Woodson left his Broncos visit without a contract, presumably so he can meet with the Raiders and Panthers. It looks like a leverage ploy. The Broncos can offer plenty of money (they're roughly $7M under the cap), a chance to start at strong safety and a legit shot at a Super Bowl. Woodson would help them defend the growing number of "move" tight ends in the AFC.

Free agent Charles Woodson left his Broncos visit without a contract. As reporter Mike Klis points out, that doesn't mean the sides aren't still talking, but for now Woodson remains on the open market. To date, his only known offer has come from the Raiders. Woodson desperately wants to play for a contender, but has said he's open to playing for any team.

Free agent Charles Woodson's player rep says he's received interest from the Raiders and Panthers in addition the Broncos, and that the Raiders have made an offer. After three months of silence, Woodson's market is finally heating up. Oakland and Carolina both have dire needs at safety, but we'd guess the Broncos remain Woodson's preference by a longshot despite his recent capitulation that he was willing to play for a rebuilding team. The Raiders or Panthers will likely have to outbid the Broncos by a meaningful margin if they're serious about securing Woodson's services. Woodson will be in Denver on Wednesday.

Updating an earlier item, free agent Charles Woodson will visit the Broncos on Wednesday. Woodson has made it clear he's only looking for a job at this point, so money or his potential role shouldn't be a major stumbling block if the Broncos want to hammer out a contract. Denver is just Woodson's second visit since he was released by the Packers in February.

Sources tell CBS4 that free agent Charles Woodson will meet with the Broncos "soon." If Woodson wants to be a contributor on a contender, Denver is an ideal spot. They're set at corner with Champ Bailey, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Chris Harris, but could use some depth and help at safety. Woodson is well into his decline phase at age 36, but would still provide good competition for Mike Adams and Rahim Moore.

ESPN Cleveland reports "there is no sign" that the Browns are interested in free agent Charles Woodson. Woodson recently said that he's open to playing for non-contenders, but the Browns are set to go into the season with T.J. Ward and Tashaun Gipson as their starting safeties. Cleveland also drafted FS Jamoris Slaughter (Achilles) in the sixth-round and expect him to be ready for training camp.

Free agent Charles Woodson is now willing to join a team in rebuilding mode. "When this process first started out, I needed to go to a contender," Woodson said Thursday on NFL Network. "I know I am towards the end of my career. At this point, I want to play football. So if it is a rebuilding stage, at this point if that is the circumstances I have to play under, then that is what I am going to do." Woodson is confused by the lack of interest in himself and the other 30-plus-year-old free agents. Some teams that could still use safety help are the Panthers, Browns, Cowboys, Broncos, Chiefs, Vikings, Jets, Chargers, and Rams.
