Coach Lovie Smith declined to name a Week 16 quarterback following Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. It's hard to see Smith sticking with Caleb Hanie. He was yanked again today and is now 0-4 with nine interceptions in four starts. Jay Cutler (thumb) reportedly has an "outside chance" to play in Week 16, but Josh McCown is more likely to get the nod.

Caleb Hanie was yanked in the fourth quarter after completing 10-of-23 passes for 111 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the Bears' Week 15 loss to the Seahawks. Two of Hanie's interceptions were returned to the house, the first by 300-pound DE Red Bryant from 20 yards out and the second by CB Brandon Browner from 42 yards away. Hanie is brutal, and the Bears' loss Sunday is almost certainly going to disqualify them from playoff contention. Josh McCown replaced Hanie against the Seahawks. FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported early Sunday that the Bears are holding out hope that Jay Cutler can return from thumb surgery. Regardless, Hanie has almost certainly started his last game in a Bears uniform.

Caleb Hanie completed 12-of-19 passes for 115 yards in Chicago's Week 14 overtime loss to the Broncos. OC Mike Martz had vowed to let Hanie be more aggressive today, but instead did just the opposite, reining his backup signal caller in after he came unglued against the Chiefs in Week 13. It worked like a charm for three quarters but proved disastrous in the fourth. Nursing a 10-0 lead, Hanie was asked to throw just once on Chicago's final four drives. The conservative strategy failed to produce a first down, and let Tim Tebow guide Denver to another unbelievable comeback. Things won't get easier against Seattle's solid defense in Week 15.

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he plans on being "a little bit more aggressive" with Caleb Hanie this week. Over the last two weeks, Martz has slimmed down the playbook and called a conservative game for Hanie. The Bears are 0-2 and Hanie has thrown six interceptions. He was also sacked seven times against the Chiefs. Opening up the playbook against the Broncos Sunday is unlikely to help matters. The only viable fantasy play on the Bears' roster is Marion Barber.

Bears coach Lovie Smith gave Caleb Hanie a vote of confidence at his Monday press conference. "Caleb's our quarterback," Smith said. The Bears were reportedly "in conversations" with free agent Donovan McNabb after Hanie completed just 11 passes while tossing three picks Sunday, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports a signing is unlikely. Hanie presented so little downfield threat against the Chiefs that they essentially brought the house on every play in the second half, but it sounds like he'll get at least one more start.

Caleb Hanie completed just 18-of-35 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions as the Bears lost to the Raiders 25-20 in Week 12. He did rush five times for 50 yards, showing good speed when the Raiders' linebackers and defensive backs all cleared out in coverage. Ultimately, Hanie's passes were all over the place and he did exactly what the Bears' don't need -- turn the football over. He also got the ball to previous No. 1 receiver Earl Bennett just once for five yards, showing a better rapport with situational deep threat Johnny Knox. Hanie is likely to keep the starting job, but he won't be a fantasy option against the Chiefs in Week 13.

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz plans to simplify the Bears offense with Caleb Hanie taking over for Jay Cutler. ''We kind of tweaked it,'' Martz said. ''We can really run the football. Those two big tight ends and the back and the line, they are just getting better every week.'' The Bears had already been transitioning to a run-first offense prior to Cutler's injury and are expected to continue to rely on Matt Forte even more going forward. Despite a favorable upcoming schedule against the AFC West, Hanie should barely be on the radar in two-quarterback leagues.

Caleb Hanie will take over as the Bears' starting quarterback, likely for the rest of the season. Jay Cutler, at a minimum, will miss six weeks with a fractured right thumb. Hanie has thrown only 14 career regular season passes, but did go 13-of-20 for 153 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in last year's playoff loss to Green Bay, playing in relief of Cutler. Hanie's best attributes are arm strength and athleticism. His decision making and accuracy have been drawbacks, along with Mike Martz's consistent failure to endorse him. We'd certainly still pick up Hanie in two-quarterback leagues.

One NFC scout tells the Chicago Tribune that backup QB Caleb Hanie has "the potential to become a starter" next season. "He performed well in a difficult situation in the NFC championship game," said the scout. "He's a gamer who rises to the challenge. He will get some looks when he becomes free." Unless Jay Cutler goes down for an extended period, we doubt Hanie will put enough on film to land a starting job in free agency. It's a good bet that he'll leave a Bears squad, though, that has consistently tried to replace him as the top backup.

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz insisted Wednesday that Caleb Hanie is locked in as the Bears' backup quarterback. Martz said it'd require Hanie's "arm falling off" for him to lose the job to rookie Nathan Enderle. It's nice of Martz to stick up for Hanie publicly, but his actions speak louder than words. Enderle will be the backup by 2012.
