Titans signed MLB Barrett Ruud to a one-year contract. Ruud was greeted by a soft market this summer, likely because of his struggles against the run. He's solid in coverage, however, and is a good signing for a team that was in line to go with rookie Colin McCarthy in the middle. That is, as long as they didn't overpay.

The Titans have expressed interest in free agent MLB Barrett Ruud. With Stephen Tulloch probably on his way out, fourth-round pick Colin McCarthy is currently the favorite to start in the middle for Tennessee. The Titans should be careful to not overpay Ruud, who struggles in run defense. He's more of an athletic coverage linebacker with range, but limited physicality.

Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times confirms that the Bucs have formally moved on from free agent LB Barrett Ruud. "He's gone," writes Holder, after speaking with multiple sources. The Bucs are going to throw promising third-round pick Mason Foster into the starting lineup from the get-go. Ruud has generated very little buzz on the free agent market.

GM Mark Dominik suggested Tuesday that the Bucs have no plans to re-sign MLB Barrett Ruud. Dominik confirmed that third-rounder Mason Foster will start out at middle linebacker, where he'll compete with Tyrone McKenzie. Ruud has received high marks for his work in coverage, but he's considered below average as a run plugger. He could draw interest from the Giants, Eagles, Browns, Lions and Jaguars.

Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times believes the Bucs will consider using the franchise tag on free agent MLB Barrett Ruud under the next CBA. Implicit in Holder's belief is the idea that teams will have a second chance to apply the tag after opting against its use in February. We're not sure that will be the case. Regardless, Ruud isn't a great bet to return to the Bucs this summer unless the market for his services is weaker than expected.
