The Vikings may hold Adrian Peterson out for the preseason. AD is 100 percent healthy, but coach Mike Zimmer realizes how little there is to gain by slamming Peterson between the tackles in exhibition games. Regardless of his preseason status, Peterson is a top-three overall player in fantasy leagues.

Why any team puts any established starting running back on the field at all for the preseason is beyond me. If he's clearly your guy and it isn't a new offense, why put meaningless miles on the guys with easily one of the shortest shelf lives in the sport? Glad Zimmer isn't a total slave to 'conventional wisdom' or whatever you'd call it.

Except it is an entirely new offense....

Okay, that part is true, I'll give you that. However, running backs tend to have about the easiest time picking up new offenses (Trent Richardson notwithstanding), and Peterson will have had several months to get comfortable, since Turner came in shortly after the end of last season. But still, good point there.
