Jets released WR Santonio Holmes. It was always only a matter of when, not if, Gang Green cut Holmes. He was due a $1 million roster bonus on Thursday. The move creates $8.25 million in cap space, but also leaves behind $2.5 million in dead money. Now on the wrong side of 30, Holmes has grown increasingly injury prone, and proven to be a slow healer. His effort had become a question mark. Holmes has just 43 catches for 728 yards and two touchdowns over his past 15 games. Holmes' name is bigger than his game. He's had one 1,000-yard season in eight years. He's not going to burn up the open market.
