ESPN Boston confirms that WLB Jeron Mayo (pectoral) is not expected to play again this season. Mayo tore his pectoral during Sunday's win over the Saints and reportedly underwent surgery. The Patriots may be able to replace his talent with No. 52 overall pick Jamie Collins, but they won't be able to truly replace what he brings to a defense allowing just 16.2 points per game (fourth-best in the NFL). Mayo plays every down, calls the plays in the defensive huddle, has led the team in tackles in five straight years and has been to the Pro Bowl twice. The Patriots previously lost defensive captain Vince Wilfork (Achilles') for the season as well.
