Titans released QB Matt Hasselbeck. The writing had been on the wall. Tennessee recently flirted with free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Hasselbeck's $5.5 million base salary was untenable for a 37-year-old backup quarterback in steep decline. Though never blessed with a cannon arm, Hasselbeck can no longer drive the ball without putting significant loft underneath his passes. Across eight appearances (five starts) last season, he managed a 6.2 yards-per-attempt average, going 2-3 as a starter and accounting for seven touchdowns compared to six turnovers. He'll likely resurface in a backup role at a much cheaper 2013 rate. Hasselbeck is no longer remotely a viable starter.
