The Dolphins have had internal discussions about signing Tannehill to a long-term contract, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. The report suggests that such a deal would be similar to the one signed by Andy Dalton, as opposed to the contracts signed by Joe Flacco, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and others. Dalton's deal really only ties him to the Bengals for two seasons, with the total value of the contract inflated by money that will only be earned if the team ultimately decides to hold on to him. This type of contract would make sense for Tanehill, who is arguably the best quarterback the Dolphins have had since Dan Marino, even though he hasn't quite been good enough to commit to for the long haul. Tannehill posted career-best numbers in every key statistical category in 2014, but his inability to throw an accurate deep ball has been somewhat of a hindrance on the Miami offense.
