Butler scored 21 points (7-8 FG, 7-7 FT) to go along with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 22 minutes Monday against the Nuggets.

Butler was extremely productive in limited action Monday and has shown an improved offensive game so far this preseason. If he can keep that going throughout the regular season, he would really increase his fantasy value as he is always a reliable source for defensive stats as well.

Butler lost some weight this summer and coach Tom Thibodeau believes he will benefit from that this season, ESPN Chicago reports.

Butler played heavy minutes for the Bulls last season and will have a significant role with the team again this season, although he might see a slight decrease in playing time due to more depth on the roster. He shot only 39.7 percent from the field last season, so he'll need to improve offensively if he is going to take his fantasy value to the next level.

Jimmy Butler will not participate in Team USA's training camp this week due to a slightly strained groin.

The injury doesn't sound serious but Butler is taking a conservative approach, which should please the Bulls even as it weakens Team USA. Earning a spot on the team would have given Butler an opportunity to learn from the league's best while gaining international exposure, so it's an unfortunate turn of events for the Bulls' 24-year-old shooting guard.

Jimmy Butler has been named to the 2014 USA Basketball Select Team.

Butler's breakout 2013-14 season during which he averaged 13.1 points, 1.0 three-pointers, 4.9 boards, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 steals went a long way towards landing the 24-year-old on the squad. "USA Basketball's Select Teams are critical for getting some of the game's brightest and most promising young players experience at the USA National Team level, and getting them into our pipeline," said Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball National Team managing director. If Butler is able to utilize this opportunity to take his game to another level, he could end up being a steal in the middle-to-late rounds of fantasy drafts.

Jimmy Butler played just 41 minutes during Game 3's 100-97 win over the Wizards, scoring 15 points with five boards, two assists, one steal and two 3-pointers.

He went to the bench with just under three minutes left in the first quarter, which ended an absurd stretch of 87:58 of being on the floor since dating back to Game 1 on Sunday. Butler got into it with Nene tonight and might receive a fine, but he's probably not going to be suspended. He's a minutes monster and will be a fantasy stud again next season, especially if he can get his field goal shooting in line.
