Ellis will miss the next two games with a sprained left knee, which he suffered in Thursday's practice,'s Earl K. Sneed reports.

While this isn't ideal, it doesn't sound like his status for the start of the regular season is in jeopardy. The Mavs play Friday and then Sunday, and don't play again until Oct. 17, which is the soonest we could expect Ellis to be back on the court. Ellis has not missed a regular season game since the 2011-12 season, and has developed a reputation as one of the more durable players in the NBA.

The Mavericks are expected to rotate their three veteran point guards and have Raymond Felton and Jameer Nelson spell Monta Ellis at shooting guard as well.

In other words, the Mavericks will have a lot of two-point guard lineups this season. That should help them run an uptempo pace. Yes, that means Raymond Felton will have to be in shape, which is a story we hear about like clockwork every offseason. Ellis is still set up for a big role with the Mavericks and should be one of the better shooting guards in fantasy hoops.

Monta made an out-of-control pass to give the rallying Spurs a Christian Laettner chance to tie with 1.1 seconds left, but San Antonio never capitalized and Ellis more than made up with it with timely buckets down the stretch. Dirk Nowitzki added 22 points on 11-of-20 shooting, and Jose Calderon chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds and six assists in the win. Game 7 is in San Antonio on Sunday.

Monta Ellis dominated the ball during Saturday's 109-108 win over the Spurs, making 12-of-22 from the field for 29 points with two boards, three assists, one turnover and three 3-pointers.

He was magnificent tonight, hitting big shots and doing a great job of setting up his teammates for easy looks. Ellis doesn't get as much credit as teammate Dirk Nowitzki, but Dallas choosing Ellis over O.J. Mayo looks one of the best decisions of the offseason. He's extremely durable and has a nice arsenal of stat contributions in the fantasy world.

Monta Ellis played terrific in Game 2's 113-92 win on Wednesday with 21 points, three boards, three assists, three steals and one 3-pointer.

He only had one turnover and the Mavericks turned the ball over just eight times while making 15-of-16 from the field. They basically beat the Spurs at their own game with fewer mistakes and their 13 steals certainly helped. Ellis has looked great in the playoffs and has stayed aggressive, which isn't a surprise considering he led the NBA in total points on drives this season. The Mavs head home for Game 3 on Saturday with the series at 1-1.

He hit a huge 3-pointer to get this game to overtime, but couldn't connect on the mid-range fadeaway to pull out the win. Ellis logged 82 games for the second consecutive season and is one of the most durable players in the NBA. Obviously, leaving the Bucks was a smart move for him.
