Young was given more praise from president Larry Bird this week, the Indy Star reports. "(I) expect great things out of them this year," Bird said. "Usually, you bring in rookies and you say nice things about them then they don't play for a couple years. But I expect both of these guys to play, play well. They are very talented."
EDGE Analysis
Young was great at the Orlando Summer League. Through four games played, he averaged 22.5 points, 2.2 three-pointers, 2.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.5 steals in 30 minutes per game. While the narrative about fellow rookie teammate Myles Turner makes sense because the Pacers have such an anemic frontcourt, it's hard to see how Young could have a significant role this season. With George Hill, Monta Ellis, C.J. Miles, and Rodney Stuckey all in need of minutes every game, it's hard to see where Young will get regular minutes in the backcourt unless the team suffers a couple injuries. With that said, if Young gets minutes, he could be a Louis Williams-type of scorer off the bench.
