McGee has earned an opportunity for extra playing time after his 15-minute/10-point effort against the Nuggets on Thursday, Carl Steward of the San Jose Mercury News reports. "He earned some extra playing time, for sure," Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said. "We're still going through different combinations, but he earned the opportunity to play some more."
EDGE Analysis
Some of McGee's playing time and production came during garbage time, but he was also needed early, four minutes into the game after Zaza Pachulia exited with two early fouls. McGee helped fuel an 11-0 run, feasting in transition with a layup, a post-up dunk and two free throws. He brings a different element at the center position than either Pachulia or David West -- McGee brings more athleticism, runs the floor in transition, and can begin that transition with highlight-reel blocks. It looks like Kerr will find some minutes for him outside of garbage time.
