Fredette signed a one-year contract Tuesday with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association, international basketball writer David Pick reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fredette, the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, will head overseas for the first time in his career after failing to receive a guaranteed contract from an NBA squad this offseason. A college star at BYU, Fredette's standout production during his amateur days hasn't carried over to the NBA level, as he's shot just 41.1 percent from the field across parts of five seasons while bouncing around between four different teams. He logged only four appearances in the league in 2015-16, spending most of the campaign in the D-League with the Westchester Knicks. The wide-open play of the CBA should suit Fredette well due to his abilities to light it up from downtown, but it's uncertain if the 27-year-old will be able to parlay his performance into an NBA offer once the CBA season concludes in March.
