Coach Fred Hoiberg indicated Tuesday that he's yet to decide who will begin the season as the starting power forward, KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's a three-way competition between Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis, and at this point it's unclear which of the three might have an advantage. Through the Bulls' first three preseason games, each player has been given a chance to start, and Hoiberg said he expects the competition to "go down to the last week [of the preseason]." Working in Gibson's favor is his experience and defensive prowess, though he doesn't offer the floor spacing abilities of Mirotic and, to a lesser degree, Portis. Regardless of who wins the job, all three players will be fixtures in the rotation this season, but it's still unclear how the minutes will break down on a night-to-night basis.
