Garnett waived his no-trade clause and was dealt to the Timberwolves on Thursday in exchange for Thaddeus Young, David Aldridge of TNT reports. From purely a basketball perspective, the trade probably doesn't help Minnesota, but it brings back the best player in franchise history. Garnett spent 12 seasons with the Timberwolves, making 10 All-Star teams and averaging 22.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.6 blocks over a five-year peak. At this point in his career, the 38-year-old is a shell of his former self, but he's started 42 games this season and provided dependable rebounding numbers (6.8 per game) in just over 20 minutes per game. Garnett will likely come off the bench in Minnesota and could serve in more of a mentor's role with the team well out of playoff contention.
