Smith put up 18 points (7-17 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in 33 minutes in the Tuesday loss to the Lakers. Smith had put up excellent numbers in his last five games (14.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 2.2 steals, 2.0 blocks) and it may not be a coincidence that he has only attempted five 3-pointers (making two) in that time. He is hitting just 39 percent of his field goals, but the lack of threes indicates that coach Stan Van Gundy may be getting through to the mercurial forward.
