Nick Markakis has multi-hit games in five of his last six contests.

Despite never posting an OPS+ below 106, Markakis has never been named to an All-Star team. It won't happen this year, either, unless a power outburst is on the horizon. While owners will take his .285 batting average, Markakis is no threat to steal bases and is slugging (.388) nearly 100 points lower than he did last season (.471).

Nick Markakis singled in Chris Davis in the bottom of the ninth to give the Orioles a 2-1 win over the Blue Jays on Monday.

It was his second hit of the night. Markakis was performing better as a No. 3 hitter than he has since moving into the leadoff spot, but at .316 with a couple of homers, he's off to a pretty solid start.

Nick Markakis went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the Orioles' win over the Rays on Tuesday.

The two-hit game raised Markakis' average to .315 on the season. He also walked and scored a run in the game. After spending some time batting leadoff during spring, Markakis was hitting third in the Orioles lineup Tuesday, a good spot for the left-handed hitter for fantasy purposes.

Nick Markakis will bat third Wednesday against the Rays.

Markakis hit leadoff in Tuesday's season opener against left-hander David Price, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter has made some changes with Rays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson pitching on Wednesday. Nate McLouth will move up to the leadoff spot while the heart of the order will all be pushed back one spot. Manny Machado remains in the No. 2 spot.

Nick Markakis (neck) had two hits and two RBI in his return to the field Wednesday but the Orioles lost to the Yankees.

A herniated disk in his neck had kept Markakis, 29, out of Grapefruit League action for most of the spring, but he seems to be getting healthy just in the nick of time. If Markakis is able to go, he'll be the Orioles' Opening Day right fielder.

Nick Markakis (neck) will start in right field Wednesday.

Markakis was the DH on Tuesday in his first game since March 1, so this is a sign that his neck is no longer a concern. Interestingly, he's batting leadoff for the second straight day.

Nick Markakis (neck) is scheduled to serve as the Orioles' designated hitter in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game.

Markakis hasn't played since March 1 due to a slightly herniated disk in his neck, but he was cleared to return after making it through batting practice Monday without incident. While there was some doubt about his status last week, he now appears on track for Opening Day.

Nick Markakis (neck) could serve as the Orioles' DH in a Grapefruit League game on Tuesday.

Markakis first needs to make it through batting practice on Monday. He has been fighting a sore neck for over two weeks but is expected to be fine for Opening Day. The 29-year-old makes for a solid second or third outfielder in standard mixed fantasy leagues this year.

Nick Markakis (neck) hit light toss and off a tee, as well as doing some running on Friday.

He could do coaches' batting practice on Sunday. There's no timetable for his return to game action, but Markakis expects to be ready for the start of the season.
