Chavez opted out of his deal and was released by the Mariners on Tuesday, ESPN 710 AM's Shannon Drayer reports. After being reassigned to minor league camp Sunday, Chavez will look elsewhere for a better shot to reach the majors. The Seattle outfield is in good health, which killed Chavez's chance to make the Opening Day roster.

Chavez was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, the Seattle Times reports. Chavez's only chance to earn a roster spot was if injuries hit the Seattle outfield. He'll go to Triple-A and wait for the same.

Chavez signed a minor league deal, which includes a major league spring training invite, with the Mariners on Monday, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. The 13-year veteran split last season between the Mariners and Triple-A Tacoma. Hit hit .276 with two home runs and 23 RBI in 80 major league games. At 36 years old, Chavez will battle for a roster spot in spring training but will likely again see time at Triple-A in 2015.

Chavez (head) is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. Chavez left Friday's game with a gash on his forehead, but the wound will not prevent him from taking the field Saturday. Chavez will play right field and bat eighth against Rangers starter Nick Martinez.

Chavez (head) left Friday's game against the Rangers after receiving a gash on his forehead while sliding into second, but he will be available Saturday, Shannon Drayer of ESPN Seattle reports. Chavez was originally feared to have a concussion, but he seems to be fine. He went 1-for-2 and suffered the injury successfully sliding into second with a stolen base.

Chavez went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's win over the Nats. Chavez was at risk of losing his roster spot at the trade deadline after the Mariners acquired Chris Denorfia and Austin Jackson, but instead he's starting just about every other day. Instead of Chavez losing his job, James Jones got sent down.

Endy Chavez has been scratched from the Mariners starting lineup on Saturday. No reason given yet as to the reason for the late scratch. Corey Hart will get the start in right field in his place.

Endy Chavez had a double and two walks, scoring all three times he reached base, in Tuesday's monster victory over the Astros. Chavez scored runs in the first, sixth and seventh innings as the Mariners plated 13 runs on the evening. Since June 23, the outfielder is batting .370 (10-for-27) with seven runs scored and five RBI. The M's are playing good baseball and playing time is hard to come by in a crowded Mariners outfield, but Chavez will likely command more at-bats going forward if he continues to produce at a similar clip.

Making his third career start at DH, Endy Chavez went 2-for-4 and hit his first homer of the year Friday against the Indians. Chavez went 1,073 career games without ever starting at DH before doing so three times this month for the Mariners. Obviously, they'd prefer to have Corey Hart or Logan Morrison in that spot, but with Hart and Justin Smoak on the DL, Morrison has been the primary first baseman of late. Chavez has gone 8-for-16 with five RBI in his last four starts for the Mariners. Obviously, that's a big boost for the team in the short term. For the long haul, it wouldn't be so great if he continued to receive playing time.
