Kenley Jansen RP LAD 6 Days

Jansen (foot) was fitted with a walking boot on his surgically-repaired foot, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Consider on or around May 1 for Jansen's return. The Dodgers will likely pick a temporary closer (or two) later next month.

Kenley Jansen RP LAD 10 Days

Jansen (foot) reported to camp Monday on crutches and says his foot cast will be replaced by a boot in five days, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

This is simply a bookkeeping note, as Jansen's timetable remains the same. He is expected to miss 7-to-11 weeks, which makes it difficult to properly value him at the moment for 2015. He would have been a top-five closer in drafts if he entered camp healthy, but owners should now be prepared for him to miss at least the first two series of 2015, and he may not return until May. A favorite to close for the Dodgers while Jansen is out has not emerged, and they could opt to go bullpen by committee with J.P. Howell, Joel Peralta and others figuring into the mix.

Kenley Jansen RP LAD 15 Days

Jansen had surgery to remove a growth from a bone in his left foot Tuesday and will miss 8-to-12 weeks, MLB.com's Jon Weisman reports. If he were able to return at the midpoint of that estimate, he would rejoin the Dodgers' bullpen in the final week of April. Brandon League, J.P. Howell and Joel Peralta have more than 100 combined career saves, so the Dodgers are not without options at the back of the bullpen. There is also a chance that Francisco Rodriguez or Rafael Soriano could be brought in to handle the closing duties while Jansen is out. However, there is also the small chance that Jansen comes back in eight weeks and misses just six or seven games, in which case his value wouldn't take much of a hit. All told, Jansen should be downgraded from being one of the first five closers off the board in drafts while his status to start the season remains in significant doubt.

Jansen and the Dodgers avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $7.425 million contract Friday, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.

While Jansen was not as dominant last season as he was the previous two seasons, he was still one of the top closers in the game in 2014 with 44 saves and 101 strikeouts in 65.1 innings. He is locked in as the Dodgers' closer for 2015.

Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit before securing his 44th save of the year Tuesday.

Jansen continues to be one of the best closers in the game and is finishing up another stellar season. He now boasts a 2.80 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and dazzling 99:19 K:BB in 64.1 innings this year.

Jansen allowed one hit en route to his 41st save of the season against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

That's two in a row now for Jansen, who blew a save last Wednesday against the Nationals. Jansen is still a top-tier closer, as his 41 saves trail only Atlanta's Craig Kimbrel and St. Louis's Trevor Rosenthal in the National League.

Jansen grabbed his 40th save of the season on Friday facing the Diamondbacks as he pitched a perfect ninth inning.

It only took Jansen (3.14 ERA) seven pitches to end the game, which was a very nice follow-up to his disastrous outing on Wednesday where he gave up three earned runs on four hits in a blown save against the Nationals. Even with the hiccup on Wednesday, Jansen remains one of the better closers in the game.

Jansen gave up three runs on four hits in a blown save against the Nationals on Wednesday.

The blown save was Jansen's fifth of the season, and the outing Wednesday marked only the second time since July 30 that he's allowed a run. Jansen should remain the Dodgers' ninth inning option throughout September and in the playoffs, as he's 39-for-44 in save opportunities this season.

Jansen pitched a perfect ninth inning, while striking out the side to secure his 39th save of the year Tuesday against the Nationals.

Jansen has allowed just one run in his last 10 appearances and is locked in a groove at the moment. With a 2.77 ERA and 90:15 K:BB ratio in 55.1 innings pitched, Jansen is as good as it gets at closer.

Jansen struck out two Diamondbacks in a perfect ninth inning for his 38th save of the season Wednesday.

Jansen has been lights out for over two months now, allowing only two runs since June 20. The right-hander is following up a stellar July (0.96 ERA) with an equally good August, sporting a 0.87 ERA and averaging almost two strikeouts per inning.
