Ryan Spilborghs has elected free agency. Spilborghs hit a quality .288/.358/.415 with nine homers and 69 RBI between two organizations at the Triple-A level in 2012. A capable defender in all three outfield spots, he shouldn't have much difficulty receiving a spring training invite with a chance to compete for a reserve role.

Rangers acquired OF Ryan Spilborghs from the Indians in exchange for cash considerations. He's been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock and will represent outfield depth there with Leonys Martin (thumb) out. Spilborghs, who is a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, could eventually be an option against left-handed pitching.

Indians reassigned OF Ryan Spilborghs and RHP Jeremy Accardo to minor league camp. Spilborghs was beaten out by Aaron Cunningham in the fight for a right-handed hitting outfielder bench role. He could choose to opt out of his minor league deal. Accardo was terrific in spring training, but the Tribe elected to carry Jairo Asencio instead.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Ryan Spilborghs has agreed to a minor league contract with the Indians. The deal is pending a physical. Spilborghs is coming off a disappointing 2011 season where he batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances. But, he's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, can play all three outfield positions and could give the Indians more balance in their left-handed hitting-heavy outfield. He'll have to win a bench spot, with Aaron Cunningham likely representing his chief competition (though both could ultimately make the team).

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that free agent outfielder Ryan Spilborghs is likely to sign with the Indians. The Indians are left-handed heavy in their outfield, so Spilborghs would have a good shot to crack the Opening Day roster. He might have to beat out Aaron Cunningham for a spot, though. The 32-year-old is coming off a disappointing 2011 season where he batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances. He's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, though, and can play all three outfield positions.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Rangers and Indians have expressed interest in Ryan Spilborghs. Spilborghs has failed to attract much free agent interest after being non-tendered by the Rockies in mid-December. But perhaps that will now change. The 32-year-old outfielder batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances in 2011, but he's shown more ability than that in the past.
