Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood will move to the Cubs bullpen after the club acquired starting pitcher Cole Hamels on Friday. Chatwood has struggled with the Cubs after signing for three years this past offseason. Chatwood has a 4.98 ERA and 1.78 WHIP on the season. Wrigley Wronged - How the Cubs Rotation Betrayed Us rotoballer.com Tue 7/10/18 4:45 AM

The Chicago Cubs starting rotation has been underperforming in the pitching department this year. They are second-worst in walks per nine innings at 4.22, tied for sixth-worst in fielding independent pitching (FIP), 20th in total strikeouts with 396, yet have somehow come out ninth-best in team earned run average with a 3.83 ERA for the entire team. Jon Lester has been himself for the most part, and Mike Montgomery has been a viable option for the back end of the rotation. The other three st[...]

Tyler Chatwood Gets Roughed Up Yet Again rotoballer.com Sat 7/7/18 8:04 PM

Tyler Chatwood had a rough night against the Cincinnati Reds, but the Chicago Cubs offense bailed him out for a no decision. He gave up seven runs on nine hits and four walks. Chatwood struck out four batters and made it through 5 2/3 innings. He has a 5.01 ERA this season after the game Saturday. He draws the San Diego Padres before going into all star week. Chatwood has an 8.1 BB/9 which is terrible. It's hard to see any fantasy value in Chatwood now or for the near future.

Welcome to our surprising starts series. Every week we'll be going over a few surprising starting pitcher performances around the majors to determine whether these starts were smoke and mirrors or something more. This week we saw some great performances over the weekend from three young pitchers. It is not known when Chatwood will start next, but it will likely come on Saturday or Sunday versus the Twins. Chatwood has had poor command this year and owns a 3.95 ERA and 1.73 WHIP. As long as he continues to walk batters, Chatwood can be avoided in most formats. Reliever Dillon Maples was optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Chatwood.
