Federowicz (knee) caught his first bullpen session Friday, and hopes to begin a rehab assignment in late June or early July, Jeff Saunders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

While Federowicz won't be the everyday catcher when he returns, he'll likely slot in behind Derek Norris and receive an occasional start. However, his return date remains unclear, but he's expected to be out through the All-Star break.

Federowicz (knee) has begun hitting and lifting weights but will remain out through the All-Star break, The Union-Tribune reports.

Federowicz is working his way back from surgery on his torn meniscus back in spring training. The initial timetable for his return was three-to-six months, so a return before August would be somewhere in the middle of that estimation. Federowicz's return would likely send Austin Hedges back to the minors, but it doesn't appear that will happen for at least a month.

Federowicz (knee) will be able to start running in six weeks, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.

That will be the three-month mark since Federowicz's right knee surgery. He should be able to return to action sometime this summer, but will be behind at least Derek Norris on the depth chart, which will limit his value.

The Padres placed Federowicz (knee) on the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Federowicz is expected to be out well beyond 60 days -- 3-to-6 months, to be exact -- after undergoing surgery for a meniscus, so Thursday's move was primarily made to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Jandel Gustave, who was claimed off waivers by the Padres.

Federowicz underwent surgery on his torn meniscus Friday and will be out 3-6 months, Jeff Sanders of the Union Tribune reports.

The surgery uncovered a significant tear in Federowicz's meniscus that will keep him out for a huge chunk of the season. He was part of the trade that brought Matt Kemp over from the Dodgers and had a good shot at winning the backup catcher job coming into spring training. The fact that he'll be out for so long may force the Padres to make a move for another catcher, but for now, Wil Nieves will fill that role.

Federowicz (knee) was initially scheduled to undergo surgery on his torn meniscus on Thursday, but the procedure has been rescheduled for Friday, Dennis Lin of the Union-Tribune reports.

The timetable for Federowicz's return will be available after his surgery on Friday. In the meantime, Wil Nieves will be San Diego's backup catcher barring a trade.

Federowicz (knee) will undergo surgery to repair his torn meniscus on Thursday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.

An MRI on Monday revealed that Federowicz had a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. There is no timetable for Federowicz's return at this point, but Wil Nieves will likely assume the backup catcher role in his absence.

Federowicz's MRI on his right knee unveiled a lateral meniscus tear, Corey Brock of Padres.com reports.

The severity of the injury will likely require future arthroscopic surgery but the Padres have not yet given a timeline for when that might occur. Wil Nieves should take over backup catching duties behind Derek Norris in the event that Federowicz sees extended time off the field.

Fedorowicz (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.

According to Brock, Federowicz was on crutches when he arrived to the clubhouse on Monday due to discomfort in his right knee. Federowicz reportedly had a leg up on Wil Nieves for the Padres' backup catcher spot, but that will change if the MRI uncovers a significant injury.

Federowicz will be traded to the Padres, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

The deal will send Federowicz, along with outfielder Matt Kemp, to San Diego, in exchange for Yasmani Grandal, Joe Wieland, and a third player to be named. If he's able to cement a spot on the Major League roster, Federowicz will compete with incumbent Rene Rivera for playing time.
