Detwiler signed a major-league contract with the Padres on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Detwiler was designated for assignment by the Marlins last week after posting a 4.96 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 56:15 K:BB across 45.1 innings this season, but he's now latched on with a new team. The 35-year-old started five games but primarily worked out of the bullpen for Miami, though he may be pressed into starting duty for San Diego with Chris Paddack (elbow) on the injured list and Blake Snell (groin) also banged up.

Detwiler was designated for assignment Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Detwiler has not surrendered a run in 10 straight appearances (8.1 innings), but his ERA still sits at 4.96 for the season. Eddy Alvarez's contract was selected in a corresponding move.

Detwiler (1-1) took the loss in Monday's 18-1 rout at the hands of the Nationals after surrendering eight runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- in one inning. He didn't walk or strike out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
He did hit a batter, though, and all eight of his baserunners came around to score. Detwiler got the hook with nobody out in the second inning after a three-run blast by Trea Turner. The veteran hurler likely wasn't set to last long as the opener anyway, but Detwiler dug a hole the Marlins' offense had no chance to climb out of. The outing tacked nearly two full runs onto his ERA, and he'll carry a 6.11 mark with a 1.39 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB through 35.1 innings into his next appearance.

Detwiler will start Monday's game at Washington, Ethan Budowsky of SB Nation reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw will make his fifth start of the season with manager Don Mattingly employing another bullpen day versus the Nationals. Detwiler has covered more than two frames in only three appearances this year, so he'll likely only pitch an inning or two as Monday's opener.

Detweiler pitched a scoreless first inning, allowing a hit and a walk but striking out two Friday against the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Detweiler was awarded the start in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Phillies. The 35-year-old found himself in some trouble with runners on the corners and two outs but was able to send Didi Gregorious down swinging to get out of the inning. The left-hander owns a 4.19 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB over 34.1 innings and will continue to typically serve as a middle-innings reliever.

Detwiler is slated to start the second game of Friday's doubleheader in Philadelphia, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Detwiler will make his fourth start of the season, but just like the three occasions before, he's likely to be deployed as more of an opener than a traditional starter. The 35-year-old lefty hasn't tossed more than three innings in any of his 31 outings this season, so he'll presumably work two or three frames Friday before giving way to the bullpen.

Detwiler didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Dodgers, coughing up five runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 2.2 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw was perfect through two innings, but the wheels came off in the third after AJ Pollock led off the frame with a solo shot. Detwiler came into Wednesday with a 2.93 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB over his prior 14 appearances and 15.1 innings, and he'll remain in a long relief/swingman role for Miami.

Detwiler will serve as an opener during Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Detwiler tossed three innings in his latest relief appearance last Friday, and the Marlins could be looking to get similar length out of the southpaw Wednesday. Miami's pitching plans following Detwiler aren't clear, but they likely include the use of multiple relievers.

Detwiler (1-0) issued one walk and struck out one in one scoreless inning, earning the win versus Philadelphia on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Detwiler pitched the eighth inning and became the pitcher of record when Miami took the lead in the bottom half of the frame. The 35-year-old has logged a 2.79 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB across 19.1 innings this season. With no saves or holds, Detwiler has mostly served in a low-leverage role in the bullpen, and he's also opened two contests.

Detwiler pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts in Wednesday's 8-0 win over Arizona. He did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Detwiler was first pitcher to take the mound in a bullpen game, so he wasn't expected to have a chance earning a win. The 35-year-old southpaw got through his two innings on 23 pitches (18 strikes). He has a solid 2.53 ERA, but his 1.22 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB indicate he lacks a dominant edge to his pitching. Detwiler will likely continue to see most of his work in low-leverage bullpen assignments.
