Pagnozzi declined his outright assignment to Triple-A and will become a free agent after the completion of the World Series, Tom Hardicourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Pagnozzi, whom the Brewers brought in on a minor league deal last winter, struggled this season, hitting only .215 with 29 RBI in 228 at-bats with Triple-A Nashville. He made one appearance with the Brewers after rosters expanded in September but will be in the market for a new franchise this offseason.

Pagnozzi was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. With active rosters expanding to 40 players Monday, the Brewers will welcome Pagnozzi aboard as backstop depth behind Jonathan Lucroy and Martin Maldonado. In 71 games with Nashville this season, the journeyman hit .215/.298/.382 with 11 homers, so he may only see opportunities as a pinch hitter or as a defensive replacement late in games.

Astros acquired C Matt Pagnozzi from the Braves in exchange for cash considerations. Jason Castro's strained knee forced Houston's hand. Already playing without concussed backup catchers Carlos Corporan and Max Stassi, the Astros' only other healthy catcher is 31-year-old rookie Cody Clark. Pagnozzi is en route to Houston and will be active for Tuesday's game.
