Magill (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Magill was initially believed to be making progress with his elbow, but it appears he lost the battle and will require the season-ending procedure. If all goes well, he should be able to return at some point in 2016.

Magill had been shut down with elbow inflammation but now has been throwing simulated games at the Reds spring training facility. If all goes well he'll start pitching for Triple-A Louisville.

The Dodgers traded Magill to the Reds on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Chris Heisey, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Magill took a massive step back at Triple-A Albuquerque in 2014, posting a 5.21 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 84.2 innings, but he has averaged close to a strikeout per inning in his seven minor league seasons (8.9 K/9). Further, he's still just 25, and Heisey was likely to get upwards of $2.5 million in his second year of arbitration, an unappealing number for a cash-strapped team, so the trade makes a good deal of sense for both sides.

Dodgers optioned RHP Matt Magill to Triple-A Albuquerque; reassigned C JC Boscan, RHP Carlos Frias, INF Brendan Harris and 1B Clint Robinson to minor league camp. No surprises here. Magill made six starts for the Dodgers last year, posting a 6.51 ERA, but he struck out a batter per inning and boasts big strikeout numbers in the minors. He could get a shot at some point this season if the big club needs a rotation reinforcement.

Matthew Magill has been placed on Triple-A Albuquerque's disabled list with called tightness in his right forearm. Magill might have gotten another spot start Sunday if he was healthy. Instead, the Dodgers are going with Chris Capuano on short rest. It's not clear how long Magill will be sidelined.

Matthew Magill and Matt Palmer are under consideration to start on Sunday against the Padres. The Dodgers need a spot starter after Wednesday's doubleheader. Magill was pulled from Wednesday's start at Triple-A Albuquerque after two innings and is on the 40-man roster, so he's likely the favorite to get the ball. Palmer is also an option, though, despite not being on the 40-man. Neither should be considered for fantasy purposes.

Dodgers optioned RHP Matt Magill to Triple-A Albuquerque. Magill gets the boot after he gave up three runs on four hits and six walks over just 3 2/3 innings Sunday against the Braves. The Dodgers have called up Justin Sellers to replace him on the active roster.

Matt Magill lasted just 3 2/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Braves. He gave up three runs on four hits and had six walks before exiting. Magill holds a 6.51 ERA and 1.99 WHIP in six starts at the major league level. The Dodgers will likely demote him to Triple-A Albuquerque immediately following the game.

Dodgers recalled RHP Matthew Magill from Triple-A Albuquerque. He'll get the ball on Sunday in place of the injured Ted Lilly (neck). Magill holds a 6.38 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in five starts for the Dodgers this season and should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

The Dodgers are expected to call up Matt Magill from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Magill struggled mightily in a spot start for Hyun-Jin Ryu last week, but the Dodgers don't have any other obvious candidates on their 40-man roster. He can continue to be avoided for fantasy purposes.
