Perez was scratched from Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Dodgers with lower back tightness, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports. Perez has a chance to earn the starting role in right field after Hunter Pence's diagnosis that could sidelined him for up to two months, but manager Bruce Bochy has already declared that Norichika Aoki will be first in line. The injury doesn't appear to be too serious for now, so consider Perez day-to-day.

Perez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres, MLB.com's Chris Haft reports. Perez has started four of the last five games in center field while Angel Pagan has been nursing a back injury, but he'll take a seat for the Sunday afternoon contest. Gregor Blanco will move over to cover center, with Chris Dominguez receiving the surprise start in left. Perez is likely to eventually be phased out of the mix once Pagan and Mike Morse (oblique) are back to full strength, but with question marks surrounding both of those options, Perez should see steady reps for the remainder of the regular season.

Perez will be called up from Triple-A Fresno on Monday, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Perez has appeared in 45 games for the Giants this season but hasn't experienced much success. He's hitting just .175/.246/.286 with one home run and 20 strikeouts in 63 at-bats. He's been on fire at Triple-A, however, slashing .316/.372/.508 with 25 RBI in 177 at-bats. Perez will primarily provide depth in the outfield.
