Beckett announced Tuesday that he will retire,'s Ken Gurnick reports.

He was going to need a pretty serious hip surgery in order for him to take the mound again, and the 34-year-old evidently decided that he was satisfied with his legacy at this point. In addition to winning two World Series rings and making three All-Star teams, Beckett was able to pitch a no-hitter in 2014 for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers transferred Beckett (hip) to the 60-day disabled list Saturday.

Beckett revealed Friday that he would not pitch again this season, so Saturday's move was primarily procedural. Beckett posted a 2.88 ERA in 20 starts this season, but he was again limited by injuries, so it remains to be seen what his next step will be.

Beckett (hip) said that he is done for the season, the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez reports.

This should come as no surprise based on everything we've learned about Beckett's situation over the past few weeks. He said that he will need to talk with his wife about his future, but hip surgery will be necessary for him to pitch again, even with shutting it down this season. He holds little value in dynasty leagues at this point with his future so uncertain, and he should have already been dropped in most single-season leagues.

Manager Don Mattingly announced Wednesday that Beckett's (hip) season is likely over, Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times reports. "I think the timing of him being able to get back is probably not very possible at this point, that we're going to be able to see him again this year," Mattingly said.

Beckett was one of the surprise performers through the first half of the season, posting a 2.02 ERA and tossing his first career no-hitter after returning from surgery to treat thoracic outlet syndrome. He saw his performance dip after the All-Star break and has been out since Aug. 8 with the hip impingement, with the Dodgers closing the door on a possible return after an unsuccessful session of catch last week. It's unknown at this time if Beckett will opt for surgery to rectify the hip issue in the offseason, but either way, the soon-to-be free agent will likely have to settle for a one- or two-year deal in the winter due to his health concerns.

Beckett (hip) appears to be a long shot to pitch again this year, though a return in September has not been officially ruled out, the Dodgers' official site reports.

Beckett will either return as a starter or not at all, according to manager Don Mattingly. At this point, getting anything meaningful out of Beckett in 2014 appears unlikely.

Beckett has a groin strain as well as the hip issue that landed him on the 15-day DL Friday, but manager Don Mattingly "anticipates" Beckett will pitch again this season, the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett reports.

When reports first surfaced that Beckett was headed to the DL, a report from's Ken Grunick stated that Beckett's teammates thought he was done for the season and that Beckett was considering retirement, as the hip injury will not heal without surgery. However, as long as Mattingly is not confirming those concerns, we have to entertain the notion that Beckett could indeed pitch again in 2014. Mattingly said Beckett will need 10 to 14 days rest before the team reevaluates him.

Beckett (hip) was officially placed on the 15-day DL Friday, the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez reports.

This was anticipated after he underwent an MRI on his injured hip Thursday, and it's quite possible that he's done for the season. Roberto Hernandez will replace Beckett in the rotation, and owners in single-season leagues without a DL spot to stash Beckett may need to think about cutting ties at this point.

Beckett underwent an MRI on his hip and will likely be placed on the DL, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. There's a chance he may miss the remainder of the season.

Beckett was previously considered iffy for his scheduled start Friday, but it's now a sure thing that he'll be replaced by Roberto Hernandez, who was acquired by the Dodgers on Thursday. Beckett has been a bit shaky of late, so it's not overly surprising to see that an injury may have played a role. Hernandez could be in line for regular starts moving forward, should Beckett be forced to miss extended time.

Beckett is scheduled to start Friday against Milwaukee, but he could see that pushed back given Thursday's acquisition of Roberto Hernandez, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports.

Beckett could probably use the rest given his 6.55 ERA in his last five starts.

Beckett will make his next start Friday against the Brewers confirmed manager Don Mattingly, the Dodgers' official site reports.

Beckett has a 6.55 ERA in his last five starts and is still likely being bothered by a sore hip. It's possible the club could put him on the DL should things not go well on Friday, but that's just speculation at this point.
