Giavotella went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored Friday in Seattle. The 28-year-old celebrated his birthday with three hits out of the leadoff spot. Giavotella recorded multiple extra-base hits for just the second time all season, but also struck out for the first time since June 28. Manager Mike Scioscia values the second baseman's ability to make contact, and should continue to give him opportunities at the top of the order, allowing Giavotella to set the table for elite sluggers like Mike Trout and Albert Pujols.

Giavotella is out of Friday's lineup against the Mariners. Giavotella continues to receive everyday starts at second base, but will get a standard day off Friday. Taylor Featherston will start at second base in his place, batting ninth for the Angels.

Giavotella went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot Thursday in Arizona. He went back-to-back with Taylor Featherston, which makes for about as unlikely a duo of boppers as you'll ever encounter. The strong performance snapped a recent skid for Giavotella, who'd gone just 1-for-14 over the prior four games. His regular playing time makes him a solid AL-only piece, but mixed-league players haven't been able to squeeze much fantasy value from Giavotella.

Giavotella is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks. Tyler Featherston will take over at the keystone and bat ninth, pushing Giavotella to the bench after 17 straight starts. Giavotella is hitless in his last three games (0-for-10), but has picked it up a bit this month after a dismal month of May (.239/.290/.315).

Giavotella was the hero on Sunday, coming up with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning in the Angels' 4-2 win over the Tigers. The 27-year-old recently received a vote of confidence as the team's starting second baseman and has responded by hitting .400 over his last eight games, but he puts up meager totals of all counting stats and carries little fantasy value at the moment.

Giavotella will bat leadoff in Friday's game against the Tigers, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports. Giavotella has hit primarily out of the nine hole this season, but he will be bumped to the top of the batting order with Erick Aybar (hamstring) out Friday. Giavotella owns just one home run and one stolen base on the year, but he did go 7-for-14 (.500) at the plate over his last five games.

Giavotella will continue to see the majority of the starts at second base according to manager Mike Scioscia, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Giavotella received a day off Wednesday in favor of the recently-recalled Grant Green, but he remains the starting second baseman in the eyes of Angels' brass. It sounds like Green will be mixed in occasionally, but unless Giavotella falls into an even deeper slump, his job appears to be safe.

Giavotella is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres. Grant Green was recalled Tuesday and will get the nod at second base over Giavotella in the finale against San Diego. After an impressive month of April, Giavotella has gone 16-for-76 so far in May (.211/.265/.237), though the team has not indicated his role as the primary second baseman is in jeopardy.

Giavotella went 2-for-4 with his first stolen base of the season in Monday's win over the Padres. Manager Mike Scioscia seems to have shown an increased willingness in recent days to give Taylor Featherston some more work at second base, but Giavotella may have bought himself a little more job security with Monday's showing. Even so, Giavotella's placement in the bottom third of one of the baseball's least-productive lineups isn't likely to dramatically jump start his production enough to make him especially useful outside of AL-only or very deep formats.

Giavotella is back in the lineup Monday against San Diego. After taking the day off Sunday, Giavotella returns to the fold manning second base and batting ninth against Padres' starter Tyson Ross. Giavotella may be in danger of losing his grip on the second base job, as he's hitless in his last 13 at-bats and is just five for his last 37 at the plate during this slump.
