Lackey's next start has been pushed to Wednesday against the Rays, so he no longer lines up for two starts next week, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

EDGE Analysis

Originally Lackey was slated to take the ball Tuesday and then again Sunday before the All-Star break, but the Cubs are opting to move Jon Lester up to pitch Tuesday in order to get their ace two more starts before the Midsummer Classic. It remains to be seen if Lackey will start the first game of the second half, or if the Cubs will tweak the rotation to move Jake Arrieta up for that start.

Lackey (5-9) coughed up eight runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Nationals. He struck out two.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran right-hander labored through 92 pitches (54 strikes), allowing runs to score in five of the six innings in which he pitched. Lackey had clawed his ERA back under 5,00 with a couple of quality starts in his previous two outings, but he'll now take an ugly 5.24 mark into his next start Tuesday at home against the Rays.

Lackey (5-8) allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings to take the loss Friday against the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Lackey gave up a solo shot to Giancarlo Stanton, but otherwise he received no offensive support, leading the veteran to his eighth loss of the campaign. Although he's been a player to avoid in fantasy lineups for most of the season, he's now posted back-to-back quality starts to lower his ERA over half a point to 4.74. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Nationals.

Lackey (5-7) allowed just a single run on two hits and three walks while striking out four batters during Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.

EDGE Analysis

This was Lackey's first win since May 16, and he posted a 6.75 ERA and 2.9 HR/9 through the five starts in between. The veteran allowed another homer Sunday, and his 2.2 HR/9 for the campaign highlights his struggles preventing the long ball. At this stage of the game, Lackey's a high-risk, modest-reward fantasy option. He projects to make his next start on the road against Miami.

Lackey (4-7) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks across five innings in Monday's loss to the Mets. He struck out one.

EDGE Analysis

Lackey was victimized by the long ball in this one, allowing home runs in the second, third and fourth innings to account for all of the damage done against him. He invited contact for the most part as he notched a season low with the lone punchout, but his propensity for giving up extra-base hits contributed to his removal after just 75 pitches. Lackey has now allowed four earned runs or more in four of his last five outings, allowing nine home runs during that span, and he will carry a hefty 5.26 ERA into Sunday's start against the Pirates.

EDGE Analysis

Now 38 years old, Lackey seems to finally be hitting a wall. He's been giving up homers like it's going out of style -- 16 of them in his 12 starts this year, a rate of more than two per nine innings. Lackey's velocity has ticked down, and not so coincidentally his hard-hit rate is at a career high. We knew to expect some regression after experienced good luck last year, but this season has been much worse than anyone predicted. On the bright side, Lackey has elevated his strikeout rate, which isn't usually something that pitchers do when they're fading out of the league. His track record suggests that he can still bounce back, with his next opportunity coming Monday on the road against the Mets.

Lackey (4-5) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six across seven innings, but didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

Lackey settled down after allowing both runs in the first two innings while the offense was able to tie the game before his departure. After allowing five runs in each of his last two outings, his solid start will likely encourage fantasy owners, but with a 4.90 ERA on the year, he's become a weak fantasy option. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Marlins.

The veteran has now allowed 13 runs -- including five home runs -- through his past 15.1 innings. Lackey sports a 5.18 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 2.0 HR/9, which limits the value of his 9.4 K/9. His 21.0 HR/FB rate is probably eyeing positive regression, but Lackey's 5.02 FIP is another discouraging mark. It isn't out of the question to fade him outside of favorable matchups until he shows signs of turning his season around, and there is no guarantee that happens. Lackey lines up to face the Cardinals at Wrigley Field for his next start.

Lackey (4-4) was the losing pitcher in Monday's game against the Giants. He allowed seven hits, two walks and five runs (all earned) over five innings. He struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

Another mediocre outing for Lackey, who failed to get into the sixth inning for the second straight start. The six strikeouts are nice, but Lackey gave up two home runs for the second game in a row, and he also hit two batters Monday. He'll look to turn it around Saturday on the road against the Dodgers.

Coming off of his best performance of the season last week in which he struck out 10 batters, Lackey was less than sharp in this one. Regardless, the Chicago bats staked him to an early lead and he was able to get through the fifth inning for the victory despite not having his best stuff. He'll take the mound again on Sunday at home against Milwaukee.
