Weaver allowed two runs over six innings en route to a no-decision against the Astros on Friday.

Weaver struck out three without walking a batter, but allowed his fourth home run in three starts. The 32-year-old is sporting an average fastball velocity of 83.3 miles per hour and while that could pick up a bit as the season progresses, his lack of velocity appears to have made him vulnerable to the long ball, as he allowed a career-worst 1.1/9 last season. Weaver's experience on the mound should allow him to navigate post some quality outings, but the tendency to allow homers is concerning, as keeping the ball in the park was a major strength for the veteran early in his career. He will take the ball against the A's on Wednesday.

Weaver gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings in a losing effort against the Mariners on Monday.

With just one strikeout Monday afternoon, Weaver's first start of 2015 offered very little as the Seattle offense plated two runs in both the third and the fifth inning. Weaver will make his next start Saturday at home against the Royals.

Weaver will start in Seattle on Opening Day,'s Alden Gonzalez reports.

Weaver will be followed, in order, by C.J. Wilson, Matt Shoemaker and Hector Santiago. With the Angels expected to use a four-man rotation the first time through, Weaver's second start lines up for Saturday in Anaheim against the Royals. Owners will want to keep a close eye on Weaver's velocity, as the right-hander's fastball has only been around 82-84 mph recently.

Weaver looked strong during a Cactus League outing against the Rangers on Monday, allowing just a solo home run in five innings while striking out five.

There was no radar gun at the game, so there is no word as to whether his velocity showed an uptick, but it didn't seem to matter, as weaver retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced on the afternoon. The 32-year-old said he recognized a flaw in his mechanics after his last start, which could make him interesting to watch going forward, but Weaver could still make prospective owners nervous if he heads into the regular season with an 83 mph fastball.

Weaver allowed two runs on five hits over three innings in a Cactus League outing against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Prospective owners should be more concerned about Weaver's velocity than his stat line, as his fastball sat from 82-84 mph in the contest, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Manager Mike Scioscia said that drop is an issue of mechanics, but for someone who averaged barely more than 86 mph on his heater last season, any sort of decline could be a concern. Weaver's ERA has risen in each of the past three seasons, culminating in a 3.59 mark last year, his worst since 2009.

Weaver added weight during the offseason, with the hope that he'll be able to pitch deeper into games, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

Weaver's weight fell as low as 199 pounds last season, and he currently weighs in at 224 pounds. He said that he isn't focused on adding velocity, but he does hope that the extra weight will help his durability. Weaver still enters his age-33 campaign with some major question marks, after posting his worst ERA (3.59) since 2009 last season.

Weaver allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings en route to a no-decision in Game 1 of the ALDS on Thursday against the Royals. He struck out six and walked two in the contest.

Weaver gave a strong showing in his first outing of the postseason Thursday, but the Angels failed to push across a run after the fifth inning, leaving the door open for a game-winning home run by Mike Moustakas in the top of the 11th. Weaver will likely look to get back on the mound for Game 4 of the series Monday, but that may be a tall order after the 31-year-old threw 100 pitches in Thursday's contest.

Weaver (illness) will start Friday against the Mariners, Alden Gonzalez of reports.

Weaver was under the weather earlier in the week but will be fine to toe the rubber Friday opposite Hisahi Iwakuma. The Angels' ace will then be afforded one extra day of rest before starting Game 1 of the ALDS next Thursday.
