Volquez picked up the win to move to 6-4 as he allowed two runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked two. Volquez was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the top of the sixth and probably had more life in him, but with 78 pitches he did enough to qualify for the victory. Volquez was shaky, however -- he had narrowly escaped a bases loaded situation in the fifth, and had already allowed two runs in the inning -- and may have been done a favor by the quick hook. He wouldn't have come out unscathed without the help of the Royals slick defense, the real key to his 3.10 ERA, but luckily for him, they're not going anywhere any time soon.
